Scottie girl golfers achieved their goal at the divisional meet held in Wolf Point on Monday.
“Our goal was not to be the fourth place team, so we achieved that,” Coach Dave Riggin said.
All five girls on the team qualified for state - Lauren Runningen with a score of 149, Heidi Moon with 139, Amy Nelson with 122, Tamrah Pewitt with 108, and Makkell Baillargeon leading the girls with a score of 103. The team score for the girls was 472 – out-scoring Cut Bank by 16 points to secure third place and some hardware for GHS.
Riggin explained that the girls are fairly inexperienced, but says that Baillargeon and Pewitt should be able to place in the top 15 and both have a shot at making all-state if they play well.
“It will be good experience for the other girls, too. They will be in the same boat next year a far as experience goes”, said Riggin.
The boys fell short of qualifying for state. Kyle Humbert had a final score of 133, Max Carpenter 120, Braden Meland 118, Cody Ross 108 and Wyatt Holzworth 96. The team score for the boys was 442 – placing them eighth in the meet out of eleven teams.
“Wyatt was close to qualifying, but just had a bad day”, said Riggin.
The girls will set out Sunday afternoon for the State meet being held in Huntley/Billings starting Tuesday, May 12.
