Edmund R. Birkoski, 85, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015 with his family at his side, at Valley View Nursing Home.
He was born in Opheim, Mont., Sept. 10, 1929, to Joseph and Jennie Birkoski. He went to school in Nashua and Glasgow through the ninth grade. He married Phyllis Miller on June 7, 1959, and to this union had four sons. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage. He worked with his uncle on the farm and ranch south of Glentana until 1970. He then moved to Glasgow and worked at the Cenex station for five years, then Farmers Union Elevator for another five years, and retired in 1985. He moved into Valley View in 2005.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, especially ice fishing, and anything outdoors. He loved his grandchildren. He spent his many years of smoking by rolling his own cigarettes.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dale Keith, in 1982; and eight brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis (Miller) Birkoski; three sons, David and his wife, Linda, of Great Falls, Lee and his wife, Dana, of Glasgow, and Rick and his wife, Kelly, of Glasgow; a brother, Stephen, and his wife, Phyllis, of Great Falls; two sisters, Rosalie Winter and her husband, Al, of Carpentersville, Ill., and Denise Fuhrman and her husband, Terry, of St. Marie; five grandsons, Michael and Jason of Great Falls, Jeremy of Wolf Point, Parker of Glasgow and Dale Scott of Nevada and three granddaughters, Brittany and Cameron of Glasgow and Jennifer of Great Falls; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Vigil services were held Sunday, April 26, at 6 p.m. and funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, April 27, at 11 a.m., all at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Glasgow with Father Jose Valliparambil officiating, followed by burial at Highland Cemetery in Glasgow.
Bell Funeral Home of Glasgow was in charge of arrangements.
