Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
One outing under its belt, the Scottie golf team is a work in progress with the meat of its schedule arriving this week.
Coach Dave Riggin told The Courier that he looks to firm up the lineups for the top five golfers on the girls and boys sides. The Huntley Invitational this Thursday would be a fine opportunity for some of them to step up.
Riggin told The Courier his group is “still pretty inexperienced” following the Fortsyth Invitational on April 7. Just three boys and two girls competed. Some golfers didn't travel, staying home due to illness, ineligibility and other reasons.
No. 1 Scottie girls golfer Makkell Baillargeon placed ninth, shooting 54-49 for 103. The only other participating girl, freshman Heidi Moon, shot 143 in her first meet ever. She just took up the game.
Among the boys, Kyle Humbert, the only returning letter winner, led the team with 51-58 for 109, but Riggin said he “didn't play that well.”
Also competing for GHS were Cody Ross with 114 and Max Carpenter with 121.
At this point, the top four girls, in order, are Baillargeon, Tamrah Pewitt, Amy Nelson and Moon. Lauren Huntington and Mykenzie Eliason are vying for the fifth spot.
For the boys, the lineup is less set. Wyatt Holzworth is No. 1, Humbert and Ross are next in line, and then Carpenter and Jordan Keys. As of Monday, those were the five Riggin planned to take to Huntley.
The upcoming schedule: JV in Malta at Whitewater Invitational on April 14, Huntley Invite on April 16, Glasgow JV Invitational on April 20, Glasgow Invitational on April 24, Malta Invitational on April 25, Plentywood Invite on April 28, Wolf Point Invite on May 2, Northern B Divisional on May 4 at Wolf Point, State on May 12-13 at Huntley/Shepherd.
