After a 1-5 start this season, the Scotties girls basketball team went 9-6 over their next 15 games and placed third at the 2B District tournament.
Then came last week's Northern B Divisional at Malta.
Coach Jon Kolstad's improved squad enjoyed a lead for one more quarter, 7-6, over Fairfield before falling to the defending state champions and then to Cut Bank. Glasgow's season ended at 10-13.
Next year will be different. This year's young group – with one senior, two juniors and the rest sophomores – will return as a more veteran unit. Point guard Amanda Wolff will move on after graduation, but everyone else returns.
At Divisional, Fairfield pulled away for a 48-24 win after spotting Glasgow the first quarter.
Abbi Kolstad led the Scotties with 10 points. Also scoring were Lexi Nixdorf, Leinie Hughes and Tyra Johnson with 4 each and Wolff with 2.
Liz Klinker poured in 25 points and pulled down six rebounds for Fairfield, but the Eagles are done and will not win a fifth straight Class B title. They lost the Northern B challenge game to Choteau, which will accompany Divisional champ Malta at State.
Against Cut Bank, the Scotties trailed 15-7 after a quarter and couldn't recover in a 54-41 defeat.
Abbi Kolstad scored 22 points to again lead GHS. Also scoring were Delaney Holzworth with 6, Jordan Kulczyk 4, Wolff 4, Nixdorf 2, Hughes 2 and Khloe Krumwiede 1.
Dakota Dosch led Cut Bank with 16 points and Brylee CrossGuns had 11.
