Phyllis Irene Campbell

Phyllis Irene (Fuhrman) Campbell, 92, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow, Mont.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow, followed by interment in the Highland Cemetery in Glasgow.

She was born to Peter K. and Pauline (Miller) Fuhrman at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital on Oct. 8, 1922. She was raised in the Fuhrman Community on the family farm and attended the Fuhrman Country School. She completed the 8th grade there and attended high school in Glasgow. After graduation, she attended beauty school in Great Falls. She worked for a while in Glasgow and then went to work at the Glasgow Hotel for P.J. Campbell.

She married Paul J. Campbell at the Baker home on the north side on Oct. 7, 1944. They made their home in one the Glasgow Hotel apartments. Later they built the Campbell Lodge. They bought a home on Flathead Lake, south of Bigfork, where they lived until Paul passed away.

While in Glasgow she belonged to many bridge clubs. She was a charter member of the Soroptimist Club. In fact, it was started in her home in the hotel. Three of her friends came from Great Falls to help start the club.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Supporting mailing boxes to our troops overseas was a passion she had in her later years. Her hobbies were playing bridge, needle work, crocheting lap robes, crossword puzzles, and some painting.

She belonged to the Glasgow Lutheran Church. She loved attending Bible studies. She was baptized at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Havre while living there. She moved back to Glasgow and lived at Nemont Manor and was one of the first residents of Prairie Ridge Village where she lived until her death.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Paul; six brothers, Walter, Clarence, Melvin, Earl, Jim and Ken; and a sister, Lenore Alden.

Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Gilbertson of Glasgow and Barbara Bales and her husband, Barry, of Scottsdale, Ariz .; many nieces, great-nieces and -nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, great-great-great-nieces and great-great-great-nephews; and by two step-grandsons, Mike Morrisey and his wife, Penny, and daughter Erin and Daniel Rafferty of Washington state.
