It Seems Glasgow Has Become Way Too Money Hungry

Dear Editor:

I used to think that Glasgow was a pretty nice city, but lately I’m beginning to question that statement. Now it seems the city has become way too money hungry.

My water and sewer bill has way more than doubled since 10 years ago when I moved back here. In fact, it has gone up every month for the last three months and I’m using less water. With the current rates, I’ll be paying about $500 more per year than before. How do people on a fixed income survive? I think they are using our money for luxury. Have you seen the fancy walls (imbedded clocks, etc.) in the office where we pay our water bill?

Now, with no warning, the city gives tickets to vehicles parked in front of your own house. You can’t park there for longer than 60 hours without moving your car. That’s only 2½ days – Please tell me how a city with so many elderly living here expects their senior citizens to venture out that often on this terrible ice? Soon the hospital will be full with broken hips, etc.

At my house, the city won’t correct the drainage problem, so I always have either lots of standing water or else lots of ice. A friend had to spend over $1,000 on her four-wheel drive vehicle because she slid right into a pole just coming to see me. I park in water, then it freezes so the tires are imbedded in solid ice. The only vehicle I can drive in the winter is my four-wheel drive. By the way, all my vehicles are licensed, registered and insured. They are not abandoned! Yet they are a problem to the city parked in front of my own house!

My lot is lower than my neighbor’s, so I always get all the runoff. Many springs I have had to pump out my backyard. My garage and basement also are always flooded in the spring. I now have three sump pumps in my basement and it’s still not enough. I would never have bought a house on the south side of town if I had known all the problems that come with it. I had my Jeep hit by a teenager and it was parked right in front of my house. My neighbors have made an eyesore of the neighborhood and won’t bag their garbage, so now in the summer the bees are really bad and have started building their hives inside my garage.

And, speaking of neighbors, I guess they don’t know that the garbage man won’t take things unless they are in the can. They keep putting things against my garage. Their Christmas tree has been there almost six weeks. But the cops do favor anyone over ninety. He only got a warning for speeding by the fairgrounds and his license had expired. I got a very expensive ticket in the same area and my driver’s license is current.
