G. Ross Robinson, 83, an Air Force veteran and retired rancher, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, in a Billings hospital.
He was born Nov. 6, 1931, in Saco, the son of George G. and Ada (Korman) Robinson. He graduated from Saco High School in 1949 and continued his education at MSU in Bozeman where he obtained a bachelors' degree in Agriculture of Science in 1953 (Go Bobcats), and married June Coton. Two sons, Craig and Mike, were born to this union. After graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the USAF. He trained in Georgia and Texas and was later assigned to Malstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls. After serving three years, he then returned to the Rockin R Ranch where he remained until he retired. He always took great pride in the cows he raised.
Later in life he married Doris and became part of her family. They spent a lot of time traveling and heading south to Arizona where they spent many winters. They spent two years traveling full time by RV before settling in Billings. Ross had many friends and family whom he loved visiting with over the phone or in person. He served on many boards including church, school, Saco Dehy, BLM Advisory, MSGA director and share holder at the First Security Bank.
He is preceded in death by his wife, June; and a half brother, Don Vaupel, of Havre.
Survivors include his wife, Doris, of Billings; two sons, Craig of Saco and Mike of Billings; two stepdaughters, Sherri Peigneux of Billings and Debbie Schaff of Fishtail; a stepson, Larry Mavencamp; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Saco Methodist Church. Interment of his cremated remains will be in the Grandview Cemetery with Military Honors.
