Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Scottie up! After last weekend's rugged Cowboy Invitational at Miles City, Glasgow's wrestling team heads west this weekend.
The Chinook Mixer comes Friday and the Harlem Invitational on Saturday. The Scotties also squeezed in some matches during last night's mixer at Sidney with the Eagles and Baker.
The Cowboy was every bit as strong as GHS coach Jory Casterline anticipated. Glasgow finished 21st in the 26-school field with 37 points. The winner, Sidney, put up 217.
The Scotsmen opened with a number of matches against upper seeds, due in part to seeding criteria based on wrestlers placing last year at State and the Cowboy. That's something Glasgow did not do with the exception of Kasey Seyfert, who placed sixth at State but did not compete in Miles City last weekend due to illness.
"With the tough draws, we needed some upsets that we weren't expected to win, and we didn't necessarily do that," Casterline told The Courier.
Cody King advanced farthest among the Scotties at Miles City, advancing to the seventh place match at 139.
Heavyweight Joe Doney made his presence known at 285. He lost by 1 point in the second round to Huntley-Project's Tanner Miller, who is top ranked in Montana Class B/C.
"He knows what it takes now," Casterline said of his big guy.
The win helped keep Doney third in the B/C power poll at 285. Miller is first and Colstrip's Jake Session second.
Also ranked for Glasgow are Seyfert, fourth at 120, and King, fourth at 138. Dropping out of the ranking over the last couple of weeks were Scotties Mick Reyling at 126, Jake Hentges at 145 and Tanner Roness at 182.
It wasn't clear Tuesday night if Glasgow would remain in the Class B Top 10. Last week the team was seventh. It could slip a couple of notches.
