Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
The New Year feels good for the wrestling Scotties.
Last week the team placed eighth in the state Class B/C power rankings with five wrestlers cracking the top 10 in their weight class – and last night they wrestled like they belong there.
Glasgow took care of Glendive, 54-21, in a dual at the GHS gym, their first action since before the holidays.
“You know, we wrestled tough,” coach Jory Casterline told The Courier after the dual. “During Christmas break, they beat each other up in that practice room, and I think they looked forward to coming out of there.”
It was a Senior Night for the Scotties in which the three active seniors came up winners. Jake Hentges (145) pinned Wade Emmert in 1:21, Tanner Roness (182) pinned Matthew Fulton in 3:28 and Joe Doney (285) pinned Elijah Morley in 40 seconds.
The other senior, Eddie Daggett, is recovering from an injury and serving as manager.
Noteworthy for the rebuilding mat program was this: Scottie wrestlers suited up in all 13 weight classes.
Other results: Matt Reyling (103) won by forfeit, Mitchell Overvold (113) was pinned by Ben Stortz in 53 seconds, Gabe Hallock (120) was pinned by Travis Kihn in 1:16, Casey Seyfert (126) lost 10-3 to Brandt Ackerman, Mick Reyling (132) pinned Anthony James in 57 seconds, Cody King (145) pinned Brandon Held in 20 seconds, Kevin Schindler (152) pinned Casimir Melton in 52 seconds, Tony Kaiser pinned Tyler Kutzler in 5:38, Darrin Wersal (170) was pinned by Tyler Klapp in 33 seconds and Justin Walton (205) won by forfeit.
In last week's week's B/C state rankings, five Scotties cracked the top six in their weight classes: Seyfert was third at 120, King sixth at 145, Kaiser sixth at 170, Roness sixth at 205, and Doney fourth at 285.
The top 10 Class B teams: 1 Forsyth, 2 Choteau, 3 Colstrip, 4 Huntley Project, 5 Conrad, 6 Cut Bank, 7 Ronan, 8 Glasgow, 9 St. Ignatius, 10 Fairfield Simms.
