Glasgow 23rd Of 46 Teams At CMR Mat Meet

Four Glasgow Scottie wrestlers came within a match of placing last weekend at the strong CMR Holiday Classic Invitational Tournament: Kasey Seyfert at 120, Cody King at 145, Tony Kaiser at 170 and heavyweight Joe Doney.

Each advanced to the consolation fifth round. As a team, the Scotties finished in the middle – 23rd in the 46-team tournament.

“Those four guys had a great showing,” coach Jory Casterline told The Courier. “I think we wrestled alright.”

Seyfert is sixth at 120 in the Class B-C state rankings.

Casterline also credited Matt Reyling for showing game at 103 and for Jake Hentges for making something out of nothing. Hentges was eliminated early in the CMR meet and then went crosstown to the JV/freshman tournament at Great Falls High School. There he went 4-0 and placed first.

On the way to the CMR meet, the this year's new-look Scotties stopped off Thursday at the Fort Benton Mixer to get some added match time under the belts. Most wrestled twice, Casterline said.

Christmas break is here for Glasgow schools, but it's no wrestling break for the Scotties.

Casterline said a lot of the days will include “grinding two-a-days in the practice room.” He also wants the wrestlers to practice in the more spacious gym to improve their mat awareness and better understand the out of bounds area.

The Poplar Invitational for the JV on Jan. 3 has been canceled. Glasgow next sees action in a home dual Jan. 6 vs. Glendive. The team expects to have entries in all 13 weight classes.

“We have work to do and we know it and we'll get after it after break,” Casterline said. “It's pretty cut and dry. That's the way it is.”
