Districts Next For No. 3 GHS

Volleyball Scotties Open Thursday Vs. No. 6 Poplar

A nine-day break ends and the postseason begins Thursday for the Scotties at the MHSA District 2B Volleyball Tournament at Plentywood.

Glasgow, which last played Oct. 21 in a three-game victory at Harlem, is seeded third and opens with a 3:30 p.m. match against No. 6 Poplar. The tournament continues through Saturday.

GHS coach Lori Dailey told The Courier that the Scotties' time off has given them "a nice buffer to fine-tune their skills."

Glasgow finished 6-4 in 2B after beating Harlem 25-15, 25-21 and 25-21.

"I'm so pleased to see continued improvement in our daily practices," she said. "The girls are getting a better handle on what I expect them to accomplish defensively and are adding more strength to our offense all the time. It's nice to see them all contribute more effectively."

Top seed Malta and No. 2 Plentywood enjoy first round byes in the six-team tourney. Rounding out the entries are No. 3 GHS, No. 4 Wolf Point, No. 5 Harlem and No. 6 Poplar.

Wolf Point and Harlem open the tournament at 2 p.m. Thursday, with the winner getting a crack at Malta at 5. The Glasgow-Poplar winner advances to face Plentywood at 6:30.

Dailey called Plentywood a "tough team that we have not yet beaten this season."

"Both Plentywood and Malta have had our number the regular season," she said. "It would be nice to reverse that situation and I think the girls are capable, but it will take a lot of teamwork. It would be nice to play in front of our home crowd, but we don't have that luxury this year."

If the Scotties continue the growth they've shown this rebuilding season, they could well earn a spot at Divisionals next week in Choteau. The top four finishers at District advance.
