Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Ed Boos, a Glasgow High School sports hall of famer, joins another hall Saturday: the Minot State University Athletics Hall of Fame.
Boos, immortalized on the hall of fame wall near the GHS gym, played on the 1977 Scottie state championship football team and a year later took second at State in the javelin. He was a second team all-state football player as an end in 1976 and linebacker in 1977.
"I learned how to hit in football in high school," Boos says. "I carried that with me throughout my four years at college."
Boos played middle linebacker for the Beavers, and played it well, but he was a monster throwing the javelin. He was a two-time javelin All-American from 1980 to 1982. He also earned two District 12 javelin championships, in 1981 and 1982, and was the 1981 North Dakota College Athletic Conference champ.
On the national stage, the Glasgow native was a force. He finished third in the javelin with a throw of 230 feet, 8 inches, at the 1981 NAIA National Championships in Houston. He followed that with another third at the 1982 NAIA nationals in Charleston, W. Va.
He was track team captain in 1982, scoring 117 points for the Beavers in 14 meets. He left Minot State as the school record holder in the javelin at 235 feet, 1 inch.
His javelin legacy began his freshman year at GHS, when he learned to throw from his brother, Tony, a senior. He showed he was championship material several years earlier as an outfielder on a Glasgow Little League team that won State.
Boos now lives in Oakes, N.D., and is a welder for Bobcat. He and his wife of 33 years, Kathy, have two daughters, Tara and Alishia, and two granddaughters, Justus and Leah.
He will be inducted in Minot State's 35th hall of fame class Saturday with legends Dave Richter from basketball and Leonard Volk from wrestling.
The ceremony will be at halftime of the Beavers' 1:30 p.m. home football game against Minnesota Crookston on Oct. 25. A brunch will honor the inductees at 10:30 that morning in the Minot State Student Center.
