Glasgow XC Enjoys Some Home Cookin'

Cool. The Scottie Invitational at Kiwanis Park in Fort Peck was cool.

The temperatures cooled down into the 50s on Invite Saturday, helping the Glasgow XC runners do what they set out to do. Cut times.

Cool.

"This year was perfect weather," junior Alex Simensen of the Glasgow girls told The Courier.

The defending state champion girls placed first in the team standings with 43 points, 6 ahead of Glendive on the fast, flat course. Leading them with some season-best times were overall girls winner Josie Braaten in 18:43, Amanda Wolff at 19:32 in second and Simensen in 11th at 20:04.

For the boys, it was Glendive first and Glasgow second. Glendive's Ashton Jones placed first individually at 16:08.

Gabe Hallock led the Glasgow boys in 17:10, ninth overall and within 11 seconds of getting into the 16s that he's shooting for.

Sophomore Kasey Seyfert enjoyed a time of 18:25, a personal best that was fourth on the GHS boys and 27th overall.

"We want to place at the podium at State," Seyfert said. "I think we're getting there."

A key will be "keeping up with the good practices," he said.

As for the girls, Simensen said, "Things are looking good. We're getting closer (in times) as a pack. We're placing well. We're improving times."

Next up: the Havre invite Saturday at MSU-Northern.

"I've always liked it there," Simensen said. "It's all grass. I feel like it's a fast course."

The season is entering the home stretch. After Havre, it's Sidney on Oct. 11 – just two weeks before State at Helena.

Will the girls defend? Will the boys podium? They're putting themselves in position to contend, for sure.
