Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
To every thing there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven. According to Mike, this was elk hunting season! With family and friends by his side, Mike made his peace with this world and was ready to go on his final hunting trip. He said, "I've walked through the valley of the shadow of death already; it wasn't a bad place, but piss poor elk country." He was 58 years old.
Per Mike's wishes, no formal services will be held, but he did want family and friends to gather for a celebration of life. He insisted it had to be after archery season.
He was born June 23, 1956, to Roy and Dolores Edwards in Glasgow, Mont. He was the youngest of his three siblings; Gwen, Debra and Gary. In 1982, he married Lisa Gauthier. To this union, a son, Tyler, and a daughter, Erica, were born. They later divorced. He married Carrie Nicol in 2012.
Many will remember Mike from his Glasgow Scottie days where he was well known for his football accomplishments, which included playing in the Montana East/West Shrine game. He was accepted to play football for the Eastern Montana College Yellowjackets, however, soon realized that college life was not for him. He went to work for BNSF in 1975 and worked as an engineer until 2012.
He loved to be outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, rodeoing, etc. ... you name it, he had likely tried it at one point in his life! Like any avid outdoorsman, he took pride in teaching his beliefs and practices of hunting and fishing to his children.
His sense of humor will be missed. His off color jokes and calling things as he saw them were not always appropriate, but always seemed to get those around him rolling with laughter. A few of his favorite sayings were "Cowboy Up" and "Life isn't fair." In recent years, he also enjoyed having daily coffee and playing cards with the crew at the Oasis.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Edwards.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie; his mother, Dolores Edwards; one son, Tyler Edwards (Casey Johnston); one daughter, Erica Edwards (fiancé Josh Ames); three siblings, Gwen Hoppe and her husband, Steve, Debra Rang and her husband, Dave, and Gary Edwards and his wife, Leisha; three nephews, Todd Holemeyer, Dustin Edwards and Charlie Rang; and five nieces, Joyce Ludwig, Jessica Garcia, Bonnie Markle, Janel Rittenhouse and Amanda Edwards.
His Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, Nov. 1, from 2-5 p.m. at the Elk's Club in Glasgow.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Scottie Booster Club, Box 735, Glasgow, MT 59230, or any charity of your choice.
Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.
