Valley County's P.E.O. State Convention Impresses

Dear Editor:

In mid-June, over 300 visitors ascended into Valley County for the annual meeting of the P.E.O. State Convention. P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women, educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College. P.E.O also motivates women to achieve their highest aspirations.

P.E.O. chapters from Glasgow, Malta, Havre and Cut Bank were responsible in the organization of this year’s event. We, as members of those chapters, are grateful that the community allowed us to make use of Glasgow High School and the Evangelical Lutheran Church as major convention venues. The Cottonwood Inn was especially cooperative as individuals made or had to rearrange their accommodations. All the meals were catered through the Cottonwood as well, and the staff and 4-H club members served meals.

It is surprising to know how many from western Montana have never had the opportunity to travel the Hi-Line and visit the Fort Peck Interpretive Center or attend the theater. Both of these sites were a part of the final evening’s celebration. Although the wind did blow and a small rain shower dampened the grounds, it didn’t hamper the enthusiasm everyone felt.

Our fellow P.E.O. sisters were impressed with Glasgow and eastern Montana and as committee organizers, we were proud to show you off. The organizing P.E.O. chapters – M, V, U, AK, AW, and AZ – appreciate Valley County.
