Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Kathleen Ann Nelson, 56, went home to live with the Lord on Monday, June 30, 2014. Thanks to Hospice Care and the Roger Maris Cancer Center she was able to spend her final days at home surrounded by the loving care and support of friends and family.
Her memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Fargo on Tuesday, July 22, at 1 p.m. A family graveside interment in Spokane will be held at a later date.
Born in Seattle, Wash., on Sept. 24,1957, to David and Betty Nelson, she moved to Glasgow, Mont., with her family during the summer of 1960. She attended school in Glasgow and in Spokane, Wash., graduating from Glasgow High School in 1975. Going on to obtain an accounting degree from Kinman Business University in Spokane, she began her career in that city. Later, she was employed as an accountant and IT manager at Robert Half International, in Los Angeles, Chicago and, finally, Pleasanton, Calif.
Her career was cut short in 2007 when she was diagnosed with cancer. She began her treatment in California, but returned to her Midwest roots, moving to Fargo, N.D., to continue treatment with the support of the entire family of Sue (Ost) Luthi, a fellow GHS classmate. She also returned to her Lutheran roots and was confirmed in the summer of 2013.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, David and Josephine Nelson, and R. L. and Thilda Brasch; and her parents, David and Betty Nelson.
Survivors include her former husband, Thomas Nugent; one son, Paul, and his wife, Jen; three sisters, Nancy LaBolle, Jeanne Ratilff and Elizabeth Pfiffner, all of Spokane; and six nieces and nephews.
The Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home of Fargo is in charge of arrangements.
