Scotties Give One Last Bite Before Falling In State

The Glasgow Scottie softball team capped off an amazing season by finishing fourth in the State Tournament.

Glasgow kicked off the tournament facing No. 1 ranked Ronan. The game was a hard fought game on both sides with the winner being anyone's guess.

Abby Mehling decided to leave guessing out of the equation in the top of the seventh inning. The Scottie senior belted a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh.

The excitement wasn't through quite yet as Glasgow needed a big play from center fielder Abby Kolstad to seal the game on a diving catch.

Scotties Head Coach Mark Falcon was impressed with the way his team started out for the tournament.

"I thought we came out and played very well against the No. 1 team in the tournament," Falcon said. "It was a hard fought game and we had a couple of clutch plays late in the game that won it for us."

Also contributing for the Scotties were Abby Dalbey who went 2-3 at the dish as well as fellow Scottie Mariah Stein who went 2-3 and added a RBI in the victory.

The next game on the slate for the Scotties put Glasgow up against Florence-Carlton.

The Scotties couldn't implement the same magic in this game as Florence-Carlton went on to win the game 12-1.

"It was a lot closer than the scorebook showed," said Falcon. "They went after everything we hit. They also played small ball and it really gave our defense problems."

In falling to the eventual State Champions, Glasgow's lone RBI came by way of Sage Sukut.

Glasgow refused to let the 12-1 defeat at the hands of the Falcons deter them for their next game against St. Ignatius.

The Scotties came alive for seven runs in the fourth inning and held on to win 12-8.

"That game was a great game," said Falcon. "We started off slow but we got a good game on the mound from Tyra Johnson and she helped out at the plate with a home run as well."

Helping Johnson at the dish was Mariah Stein who went 2-2 with a 2B and two RBIs. Tiana Johnson also went 2-2 with two RBIs while Megan Rasmusan had a hit. Shyla Bergtoll added two RBIs of her own while Sage and Sadie Sukut had an RBI each.

Glasgow's next game saw the Scotties fall 12-6 agains Plains in what turned out to be the final game of the season for the Scotties.

"We couldn't get our bats going against a very tough team," Falcon said.

Tyra Johnson was 3-4 with 4 RBIs in the game. Abbi Kolstad was 3-4 with 2 RBIs.

The Scotties finished their season with a 19-7 record.
