Lorraine Marion (Nelson) Bain, 94, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014. She lived a wonderful and eventful life.
She was born April 16, 1920, on the family homestead in Tampico, Mont., in the horse and buggy days. She was the daughter of Nels Crist and Mary E. Nelson, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended Buggy Creek Grade School and graduated from Glasgow High School in 1937.
She served in WWll as a Women's Air Service Pilot (WASP), and was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.
On February 3, 1950, she married James A. Bain, who was in the United States Air Force. Upon their retirement, she and Jim moved to a small farm outside of Chireno, Texas, where she volunteered for several organizations, including a Nacogdoches Hospice; she also taught computer skills for SeniorNet.
She was preceded in death by one son, Nelson Charles Bain, in 1966.
Survivors include her husband, James A. Bain Sr., of Woodstock, Ga .; three sons, James A. Bain Jr. of Midland, Mich., William Joseph Bain and his wife, Kari, of Tulsa, Okla., and Roger L. Bain and his wife, Sherry, of Muenster, Texas; and one daughter, Mary F. McCoy and her husband, Michael, of Woodstock; five grandchildren, Austin, Wyatt, Matthew, Penny, Chuck and Pete; and three great-grandchildren, McKenna, Ryan and Melanie Lorraine; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends, for whom her passing marks the end of an era. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Valley County Pioneer Museum, PO Box 44, Glasgow, MT 59230.
A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, May 28, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Woodstock with Pastors Paul Baumgartner and Justin Ask officiating. On Thursday, interment will be at Ft.
