The Glasgow Ice Dawgs high school team competed in the MAHA State Hockey Tournament over the weekend in Billings and went 0-2-1 in that stretch.
The first game against Helena, the Ice Dawgs fell in a hole early and never receovered as Helena went on to win the game 8-1. Glasgow’s lone goal of the game came by way of Hunter Losleben as he took a nice pass from Parker Kulczyk and found the back of the net.
In game two for the Ice Dawgs, it was a much different story. Glasgow and Bozeman went neck and neck the entire game which ended in a 3-3 tie. Sam Schultz and Ryan Padden were the stars of the game for Glasgow as the tandem combined for all of the Ice Dawgs scoring in the game. Schultz found the back of the net twice in the game on assists from Padden. Later in the third period, Padden found the back of the net on a shorthanded goal.
Game three was another hard fought game, but in the end Glasgow was on the losing end once more as they fell to Missoula 5-4. Scoring for Glasgow in the game was Schultz on an assist from Braden Barstad in the first period. Barstad assisted two more goals in the second period. The first one to Schultz again and then Barstad found Padden for another goal. Connor Simensen got in on the action later in the second as he took a pass from Schultz and put a shot past the Missoula goalkeeper for a goal.
On the weekend of March 1, the U16 squad got their chance to compete in the MAHA State Tournament in Butte. Glasgow was overmatched for much of the tournament as they went 0-3.
In their first game, Glasgow was shutout 8-0 against Butte. The games didn’t get any easier as Glasgow then played Bozeman twice in a row, losing both times 8-1 and 5-1 respectively.
In the first game against Bozeman, Wyatt Mattfeldt found the back of the net on an assist from Kaden Fossum. In the second game against Bozeman and final game of the tournament for Glasgow, Taylor Padden scored an unassisted goal in the third period for Glasgow’s lone goal in the final game.
On Feb. 21-23, the U19 girls competed in the MAHA State Tournament in Missoula.
The Ice Dawgs ended up finishing in third place in the tournament going 3-1 in that span. Glasgow started things off with a 6-0 win over the Miles City Generals.
The Ice Dawgs then squared off against Kalispell the next day and won easily in a 14-0 drubbing of the flames.
Later that Saturday, Glasgow suffered it’s only loss at the tournament as they fell 5-1 to Missoula.
Glasgow bounced back in their final game against Miles City as they won 12-0 to claim third place.
For the Ice Dawgs, Makenzie Wesen and Carley Wesley each had six goals during the tournament.
Fellow Ice Dawg Sage Sukut added five goals of her own. Ice Dawgs goalkeeper Autumn Gault stopped 39 of the 43 shots she faced during the tournament. Glasgow finished the year 17-9-1.
