Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Going Down Under In Glasgow

My mind is a blank this week.

There must be a lot of things that need to be remembered, so please share.

I did have several real interesting conversations with Courier readers. One of our readers actually has an original page published by The Courier after the big downtown fire. He tells me that the fire was the 29th of November 1951, and that was on a Monday.

Another reader shared a different item of interest. Apparently some of the young residents of the area had discovered that there was access to the basement of the Roxy, and maybe other buildings along the alley. Of course, I let my imagination run wild and pictured a boys' club house.

Cory's Drug was just across the alley. This could be such a convenience. You could purchase your comics, maybe even Playboy magazines (I told you I was letting my imagination run wild), and forbidden cigarettes, candy and coke and enjoy them in the privacy of underground.

No evidence for Mom to stumble upon.

These childhood pranks, of course, may be why parents are not easily fooled. They have been there, done that.

For those of you that do share with me, rest assured, I am not divulging names.

Gwen welcomes your memories at 406-367-5582.
