Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
On Court Success Has Hopes High
When you’re hot, you’re hot as my old non-acquaintance Jerry Reed once didn’t tell me and that is exactly what the Raiders, boys and girls are today. The boys are leading the 3C with a record of 11-1 (15-1 overall) and the girls are in second place with 10-2 (14-2 overall) as we head into the final week of conference play.
Thirty-two games, combined Raiders and Lady Raiders, with just three losses. That’s huge folks. And by this bumbled writer’s estimation The Raiders and Lady Raiders are peaking at just the right time.
On Friday Scobey will travel to Hinsdale where the Raiders will try to avenge their only loss 43-33 to the Spartans in their first conference game of the season. They’re still trying to figure that one out.
Hinsdale traveled to Dodson last Friday and were surprised with a nice surprise when Dodson’s Nick Bear presented Hinsdale Head Coach Mitch Capdeville and junior, Dallas Capdeville with a star quilt. It’s always such an honor to receive one of these beautifully crafted quilts.
That was a Class Act Nick Bear.
But honor or not, the Hinsdale boy’s didn’t treat the Coyotes very nicely winning the game 62-38.
Dallas scored 12 points and had nine assists. Freshman Cache Younkin, getting the starting nod from coach Capdeville to fill in for the injured Kyle Albus poured in 6 points and grabbed six rebounds. Brett Johnson scored nine point and got five rebounds. Wyatt Pattison went six points and six rebounds. Luke Johnson scored big with 16 and took down five rebounds.
Freshman Logan McColly just gets better with each appearance giving this writer hopes for the Raider future after the class of 2015 graduates. McColly came off the bench and was high rebounder with seven while scoring six points. Good job Logan.
Val Robert and Hannes Seifert scored a two points each.
The Lady Raiders had a great night with three players in double figures on the way to a 63-36 win over Dodson.
Chadaya Christensen took the lid off the bucket scoring 16 points and left it open for her cousin Bethany Lacock to score 17 and Whitney Molina found the range as well hitting for 19 points which included four 3-pointers. Bethany hit a three and Delaney Beil scored her first ever varsity “down-towner.” Good job Delaney. I’m sure there will be many more to come. Courtney Capdeville added 4 points to the mix and the Lady Raiders improved their conference record to 10-2 (14-2).
They play the Scobey Lady Spartans Friday evening at home and then Saturday they travel to Frazer for the final regular game of the 2013-14 season.
Make your reservations early friends. Districts and divisional are both in Wolf Point this year and you know as well as I that Wolf Point always puts on a good tournament (and they have the very best hospitality room in the state. When the off-duty Zebras aren’t there I sometimes sneak in.)
Consult your local listings for times and brackets.
That’s it for now folks. Thanks for listening.
