Glasgow Boys Dissect Baker With Team Effort

Turnovers Do Girls In Against Tough Baker Squad

In a few short minutes, all the pain and agony felt this past football season was erased on the basketball court as the Glasgow boys exacted revenge against Baker on their way to a 63-35 victory.

The Scotties jumped out at the tip, scoring the game's first 14 points. Baker head coach Jay Shumaker was forced to use an early timeout, but by that time the rout was on.

"They had one game under their belt and I think probably a little hungry to get Baker tonight as well," said Shumaker. "I can't say that I expected it to end this way, but I can't say I'm totally shocked either."

It was a complete team effort as has been expected from this year's Glasgow squad. Four Scotties were in double figures for the night with Jason Thibault and Lane Herbert both racking up 13 points. Keil Krumwiede and Jake Kolstad compiled 12 points apiece for Glasgow as well.

With the loss of six seniors from the previous season's squad to graduation, Shumaker knew he had a tough task at hand.

"Our offense is a project right now," Shumaker said. "We're not quite clicking real well and that showed in the first quarter when Glasgow was clicking real well and we couldn't get anything going."

On the opposite bench, Scotties head coach Norm Braaten was pleased with the performance of his team.

"That first quarter was the way we'd like to play all the time," Braaten said. "We got some things we have to clean up, but we're getting better."

Although Glasgow won another game by a double digit margin, Braaten realizes that the games won't end that way the entire season.

"We're getting most of our scoring off of our pressure," Braaten said. "When we play Harlem, Malta and Wolf Point, we're not going to be able to do that all the time."

The Scotties look to improve to 4-0 on the year when they square off against Sidney at home on Friday.

The Glasgow girls, meanwhile, continue to work out their kinks on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball as they fell to rival Baker at home on Friday 68-50.

The Scotties did everything in their power to keep it close, trailing by 9 at half. Baker proved to be too much for the Scotties to handle in the second half as they capitalized on numerous Glasgow turnovers.

Baker extended their lead to double digits at the end of the third quarter en route to a twelve point victory.

Baker head coach Sid Parini said that he was pleased with his team's performance in their first game of the year.

"This is our first game of the season and we just wanted to be fundamentally sound," said Parini.

"I think we did a good job; we gave up a few too many points, but our defense will get stronger and we'll do a better job of defending."

Glasgow head coach Emilee Morehouse said that in order for her squad to secure their first win of the season, they need to work on keeping their turnovers down.

"We had too many turnovers and our offense didn't have a steady rotation to it," said Morehouse.

Falling to 0-3 on the short season, the Scotties return to action Friday night against Sidney.
