Team Wins One Of Four Over The Weekend
The Ice Dawg Squirt team headed to Kalispell’s outdoor rink this past weekend. Making the trip were Colter Barnett, Jack Cornwell, Dylan Hlad, Michael Hoyer, Gage Iman, Ian Peterson, Tatum Provencher, and Gage Siefert.
The first game against Kalispell had a rocky start. At temperatures hovering near zero, Kalispell scored 30 seconds in and again 4 minutes later.
The undermanned Dawgs struggled with positioning, while rotating in only two extra players. In the second period the Dawgs were down to six skaters, but managed to hold the period scoreless, and allowing only 1 goal in the third. Iman had 14 saves in the 3-0 loss.
Game two against Helena had the Dawgs outmanned with only six skaters.
Helena took the lead quickly but Barnett put the puck in the back of the net twice to take the lead.
Barnett sank another but was recalled after too many men on the ice. The Dawgs defense killed their first penalty well. Helena came out ready in the next 2 periods adding 7 goals.
Despite Barnett adding a hat trick in the third period for the Dawgs, the team was unable to take the lead again. The final score was 8-5 with Iman tending the net well making 21 saves in the game.
For the third game of the day, the Dawgs took on Kalispell once again. The defensemen of Hoyer, Peterson and Cornwell worked together well, holding off shots on Siefert.
Glasgow secured the lead early in the first period with 2 goals from Barnett. The Flames were able to sneak one past the strengthening defense. Barnett added 2 more goals to give the Dawgs their first win of the season. Siefert had 8 saves in the 4-1 win.
The Dawgs showed fatigue in the next game, allowing 2 quick goals. Barnett put one away in the 2nd period, but the Bighorns added 2.
After regrouping, the Dawgs showed incredible heart and skated as though they had fresh legs. Hoyer caught a nice pass from Cornwell to put it away in the back of the net, closing the gap.
Barnett scored again, making the Bighorns nervous of a comeback. The final buzzer sounded before that could be realized, but the team skated their best period yet. Iman had another stellar game making 16 saves in the close 4-3 game.
