Melda Loy Carter

Melda Loy (Collins) Carter, 78, died on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow, Mont.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Hinsdale Legion Hall in Hinsdale, followed by interment in the Hillview Cemetery in Hinsdale.

She was born on July 6, 1935, in Emmett, Idaho, the daughter of Richard Shelton and Muriel June Collins. She lived in Idaho until age 17 and worked for Bell Telephone, living in Spokane, Wash., England from 1959 to 1965, and then Southern California. After moving back to Emmett for four years, she moved to Libby in 1966.

On Jan. 4, 1974, she married Earl "Shorty" Carter in Malta. They lived in Malta one year, and then purchased the Rainbow Room Bar in Hinsdale in 1975, retiring in 1989. She worked at the Cottonwood Inn in Glasgow from 1989 to 2012.

She was a dedicated member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and loved cooking, sewing and quilting. She was one of the founding members of the Milk River Days in Hinsdale, and she enjoyed gardening and canning.

Survivors include two daughters, Leanne McIntosh and her husband, Mac, of Saco, and Wendy Kilmer of Colorado Springs, Colo .; one son, Mike Arnold, and his wife, Jamie, of Ohio; one step-son, Ronnie Carter, of Libby; two brothers, Clinton and Lional Sharp of Idaho; six grandchildren, Luke McIntosh and his wife, Roisen, of Wicklow, Ireland, Misty McIntosh-Suarez and her husband, Rick, of Kingston, Wash., Kailey Kilmer and T.J. Kilmer of El Paso, Texas, Chance Arnold and his wife, Alesha, of Ohio, and Tyler Arnold of Ohio; six great-grandchildren, Journey Myers, Sophia Suarez, Faith Suarez, Tristan McIntosh, Aurora McIntosh and Jasper Arnold.

Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.
