Football Scotties Wipe Out Wolf Point, 58-6

Big Red Steamrolling As Team Prepares For This Friday’s Key Conference Game In Plentywood

This past weekend Wolf Point came to town to take on the Glasgow Scotties. Not only was it Senior Night for the Scottie cheerleaders, football players, cross country runners and football managers, but it was also a night Glasgow pummeled the Wolves, 58-6, and continued its winning ways.

“The main concern I had going into the game after such a convincing win over the Malta Mustangs was continuing to have sharp execution for passing, staying mentally focused, and not to be sloppy in any parts of the game,” head coach Greg Liebelt said.

The Scotties are now 5-1 overall, sitting at 3-0 and in first place in the conference. Second place Plentywood is 2-0 in the conference and 3-4 overall. The two teams clash 7 p.m. Friday in Plentywood.

“The two keys of going into Plentywood would be to improve our run blocking and our pass defense,” Liebelt said.

The Scotties offense had a total of 345 yards (188 rushing yards on 31 attempts, 157 passing yards) while the Wolf Point Wolves gained 199 yards (26 rushes for 101 yards, 4-21 passing with 98 yards).

The Scotties were able to utilize many of the team’s players during the game, with eight different players having one or more rushing attempts and six different receivers catching passes.

The scoring for Friday's game started with a 20-yard pass from quarterback Jason Thibault to running back Jonathan Koessel. The PAT kick was good by Valentin Robert for a quick 7-0 lead.

On the Scotties' next possession, Thibault connected with tight end Keil Krumwiede for a 21-yard touchdown and a successful PAT kick by Robert extended the Scotties lead to 14-0.

On the first two scoring plays, coach Liebelt said that receivers Lachlan Vaira and Chase Fossum made key blocks for the Koessel and Krumwiede touchdowns.

"I continue to be impressed at how well the receivers continue to block during each game," the coach said.

Wolf Point then scored on a 53-yard passing play from Tucker Toavs to Tyson Bridges for their only score of the game. Their PAT kick failed, and therefore the score remained 14-6.

In the 2nd quarter, Thibault scored on a 12-yard run to the left side, following his blockers and cutting it up inside for the touchdown. The PAT from Robert was good once again to extend the Glasgow lead to 21-6.

Later in the second quarter, a big play was made on a fake punt by Wolf Point when Fossum intercepted the pass and turned on his afterburners and raced down the sideline for a 62-yard touchdown. The PAT kick was good by Robert, who was clearly on a roll, bringing the score to 28-6. He then made a 28-yard field goal, adding another 3 points to the Scotties score.

In the third quarter Granchamp had a 5 yard run up the middle. The PAT kick attempt by Pablo Pascual failed, so the Scotties score remained at 37-6. Chase Fossum then completed a 2-yard run, right up the gut bringing the score to 43-6. The PAT kick was good by Pascual to increase the lead to 44-6.

During the fourth quarter, Dallas Capdeville had a 12-yard run and the PAT kick attempt was good by Pablo Pascual to make it 51-6. Kevin Schindler then completed a great pass to Zach Miller for a 14-yard touchdown. Robert completed the PAT kick. Final score: 58-6.

As the Scotties go into Plentywood, hopefully they can play to their potential, produce another victory, and claim the Northern 2B title and No. 1 playoff seed.

Fans are hoping to see many Scottie supporters up in Plentywood wearing their Red and White and cheering on the Scotties.
