Gilbert “Ross” Floyd, 87, of Great Falls, Mont., died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at Peace Hospice.
At his request, no services will be held. Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will take place at a later date.
He was born March 18, 1926, in Woodrow, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was raised in Opheim, attending schools in Opheim and graduated from Opheim High School. He then attended Great Falls Commercial College.
He entered the U.S. Army during WWII in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked most of his life with the Montana Employment Service and retired in 1988.
He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1087. He enjoyed fishing and camping.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Floyd; an infant daughter, Susan Floyd; one brother, Robert Floyd; one stepson, John Rooney; and one stepdaughter, Kathy Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Floyd, of Great Falls; one daughter, Melissa Wisnesky of North Carolina; three sons, David Floyd of Missoula, Gilbert Floyd of Great Falls and Tom Floyd of Pasco, Wash .; five stepdaughters, Becky Dowell of Great Falls, Linda Rooney of Cut Bank, Sue Stevens of Lewistown, Deborah Fox of Barryton, Mich., and Angels Basurto of Tucson, Ariz .; four stepsons, Barry Garber of Great Falls, Daniel Floyd of Colorado, Jarl Garber of Great Falls and Bob Rooney of Cut Bank; one brother, Kenneth Floyd, of Opheim; and numbers of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
