Scottie Volleyball Team Defeats Wolf Point And Poplar
It was a winning weekend for the Glasgow High School volleyball team. The Scotties earned two victories in a row, first over Wolf Point on Friday, Sept. 13, and then over Poplar on Saturday, Sept. 14.
Against Wolf Point, the team battled for four games, 27-25, 23-25, 25-15, 25-13, to get the win.
“It was a solid win for us,” coach Lori Dailey said. “I am pleased that we beat them in four games and in Wolf Point. I am particularly happy about it because Wolf Point will host districts this season.”
However, Coach Dailey is not a “fool,” as she pointed out.
“I know Wolf Point was having some issues, and I know they will fix those by the time we play them again. We will see who comes through when it’s crunch time.”
The team had great serving and tough offense to go with it.
“It was a very well rounded match for us.”
Senior JoLynn Reyling had a great game as a setter, providing 31 of the team’s 32 assists. The Scotties had a good performance offensively, killing the ball 36 times, combined with 15 aces. Senior Megan Dailey had 14 kills, while senior Sage Sukut served four aces. The team was also impressive defensively, getting 17 digs and nine blocks. Abby Dalbey was the best blocker on the court with four blocks.
On Saturday, the team had no real trouble defeating Poplar, according to Coach Dailey. Even though she described the win as “ugly,” the Scotties dominated their opponent in three games, 25-13, 25-7, 25-22. However, she was not pleased with her players’ performance.
“We were less focused, we had less urgency about winning,” Dailey explained. “Poplar threw a different game at us, less predictable, and that was their strength. They caught us standing a few times.”
After a few minutes in the first game, Dailey called a time out. She explained why.
“I was not happy with my girls, and I told them that if they were not getting into it, they would not survive practice on Monday.”
Apparently, the threat worked, because the Scotties picked it up and left no chance to Poplar, who still played great volleyball, according to Dailey.
Once again, Megan Dailey was the top killer for the Scotties with seven kills out of 20. At the service line, junior Sadie Sukut unseated her sister and had five of the team’s nine aces. The Scotties compiled a total of 12 digs and 19 assists, with all of the assists by Jolynn Reyling, once again showing her talent as a setter.
For the next game, the team will host Glendive this Thursday at 4 p.m. Come support your Scotties!
