Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
The Scotties volleyball team came home from the two-day Chinook Invitational with a third-place finish after winning the consolation finals over Simms, 2-0. Shelby took the trophy home after defeating Cut Bank, 25-23, 25-24.
The Scotties had a hard time getting into the tournament, according to coach Lori Dailey. The team only won one game on Friday and the coach had to gather her players and have a motivational talk with them.
“Friday was dismal and was not our best performance,” Dailey said. “We talked about it for an hour, deciding to not dwell on our mistakes and move on. Saturday started good and became better and better, until we lost to Cut-Bank.”
On Friday, the Scotties only defeated Valier, 25-18, 25-16.
“We played a little selfishly,” Dailey explained. “There was not enough team support for any action that occurred.”
On Saturday, each girl did her part to turn the team around and added something positive.
“It was just well-rounded performance by all of them at some point,” Dailey explained.
In the quarterfinals, Glasgow disposed of Conrad 24-25, 25-23, 15-8, before losing to Cut Bank in semifinals, 18-25, 23-25.
The Scotties faced Simms in the consolation finals. The girls easily defeated their opponent in two games, 25-16, 25-13.
“We need to work on terminating the ball,” Dailey commented. “We are scrappy like I wanted to be. We play solid defense and we save a lot of balls, but now we need to also end the ball and we are still struggling with that a little bit.”
Dailey also added that the team had too many “mental vacations” at Billings and that players need to stay focus longer and be more consistent.
Next up for The Scotties is a trip to Wolf Point on Friday, Sept. 13.
