Joseph Daniel (Day Star) Johnston, 25, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at his home in Billings, Mont.

A vigil service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m., and funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 15, at10 a.m., both services at the Oswego Community Hall in Oswego. Interment will be in the Oswego Presbyterian Cemetery in Oswego.

He was born on June 28, 1988, to Phillip Johnston and Clara Raining Bird in Wolf Point. He grew up in Frazer and Wolf Point, graduated from the Swan Valley Youth Academy near Missoula, and then graduated from Frazer High School in 2007.

He loved playing basketball and being with his family and friends. He was a star athlete starting in the eighth grade. His junior year he went to the State 2B Basketball Tournament when he played for the Wolf Point Wolves. His senior year he attended school in Frazer where he was on the starting five for the Frazer Bearcubs and they went to the Divisional 3C Tournament.

In 2008, he became a father with his high school sweetheart, Alexine “Allie” Antone, to their son, Kolbi Daniel Johnston. He thought the world of his son and Kolbi thought the world of his dad. Joe and Kolbi spent endless hours gaming it up. After the birth of Kolbi they moved to Billings.

He was a jokester and always had a smile on his face. He had various jobs, starting from the Holiday Inn to Billings Cement, where he found a passion for concrete. Joe loved his job. His favorite game was the Call of Duty.

He was preceded in death by his friends, Roger Flynn Jr. and Jordie Jackson; two grandpas, Harold Johnston, Joseph Raining Bird Sr.; two grandmas, Grandma Isabelle and Grandma Lucille Raining Bird; two uncles, Willing and Doyle Raining Bird; and numerous other relatives.

Survivors include one son, Kolbi Daniel; his significant other, Alexine Antone, of Billings; his dad, Phillip Johnston of Frazer; his mom, Clara Raining Bird of Billings; three brothers Wayne Johnston and his wife, Sabrina, Claine Johnston and his wife, Vancheon, and Parker Johnston, all of Wolf Point and Frazer; two older sisters, Lacey and her husband, Shay, and Secret Johnston of Billings; seven nieces and nephews, Alyssa, Kalianna, Jaedyn, Dallas, Leighton, Analayna and Thomas; numerous aunts and uncles, Spud, Flora and her husband, JoJo, Roland, Raymond and his wife, Phyllis, Phyllis, Curtis, Colleen (Rob/Jug), Derrick, Ona and her husband, Chris, Theron and his wife, Charlene, Joe and his wife, Cicely, Sarelle and her husband, Tommy; five grandmothers, Gramma Wilma C., Gramma Pearl, Gramma Babe, Gramma Rita, Gramma Arlene; three grandpas, Dean, Mason and Floyd; numerous cousins; and many other relatives.
