Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Carol E. Meves

Prior to Carol E. (Heatherton) Meves’ passing on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, God sent the most brilliant double rainbow to her hospital window as His promise to her, “Today you will be with Me in Paradise.” She was 73 years of age.

She was born on May 6, 1940 in Williston, N.D., to James and Gladys (Aamodt) Hetherton. She graduated from Opheim High School in 1958, and then enlisted in the US Navy, where she served as a Hospital Corps Wave and met the love of her life, Charles M. Meves. On June 6, 1961, they were united in marriage at Great Lakes Naval Hospital.

She was a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior. Her greatest joys in life were being a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and cheerleader. She was also a loyal Brewer & Packer fan.

Over the years, she was employed by Rodewald Buick, Chilton Village, Metko and Art Unlimited. She retired in 2002 (when you’re a homemaker you never really retire). She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein serving on the Altar Guild and the Zion prayer chain. She was also an active member of the New Holstein American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Melvin and Eleanora Meves; a sister-in-law, Joanne Meves; and brothers-in-law, Reuben Holzwart and Buck Dear.

She and Chuck were blessed with four children, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Kim and John Wilkens of Kiel and their children, Matt (Jill & Grace), Brandon (his daughter Jaelyn Neils) and Tyler; Denise and Kevin Kosnicki of Elkhart Lake and their children, Kassi, Jenna and Travis; Lynn and Paul Machajewski of Goodview, Minn., and their children, Casey, Alea and Brady; Steven and Mary Meves of Lindenhurst, Ill., and their children, Michael and Nathan; three sisters all of Montana, Fay Dear (her dearest friend), Colleen and Lowell Hallock and Judy and Virgil Nelson; a sister-in-law, Naomi Holzwart, of Sheboygan; a brother-in-law, James and Sue Meves of Franklin; as well as many nieces and nephews; and too many friends to mention.

Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 8, at Zion Lutheran Church, (1702 Van Buren, New Holstein) with military honors conducted following the service. Family and friends could call at the church from 2-5:45 p.m. when there were brief family rites.

Burial took place in the New Holstein Countryview Cemetery.
