Potter Wins Demo Derby

There were close to 10,000 collisions in Glasgow on Saturday. All of them were with malicious purpose as 17 drivers and cars participated in the 80s & Up Demolition Derby at the Glasgow Fairgrounds.

With a calcutta immediately preceding the wreckage, and thousands in prize money on the line, the drivers weren’t holding back any steel-crunching punches. Coming out of the twisted ball of metal was Fred Potter, who took the top spot in the finals over second-place finisher and defending champion Willie Lauckner.

Potter, Lauckner, Tim Potter Jr. and Mike Pedersen were the last four standing in the finals when they all became tied together after a sequence of collisions in one of the corners. By rule, Lauckner and Potter, the last two drivers to make a “hit” were to be pulled out of the pile for a restart to decide the champion. However, Lauckner’s fuel tank had been damaged and gas began to pour into the car, ending Lauckner’s repeat bid and giving Potter the title.

Potter Jr. finished in third and Pedersen was fourth. Wyatt Pederson took fifth.

The Mad Dog driver was Potter Jr. and hard luck driver was Tanner Solberg, who broke his axle. Twice.

There were three heats with two winners in each heat before the finals. The first heat’s winners were RJ Johnson and Steve Reynolds. Jeremiah Johnson and Pederson were the second heat winners. The third’s were Pedersen and Potter.

Milk River Motorsports will also host the Big Car Demolition Derby on August 6, at 7 p.m.
