City Makes Counter Offer

The Glasgow City Council discussed contracts with its unionized employees, police department and city attorney at the regular meeting on Monday.

The counter offer from the union was a $.50 raise and an increase in health insurance for two years, but the council voted to offer a one-year contract. They voted to do the same thing with the counter offer from the police department, make the same offer as last time.

The Council agreed to renew a revised six-month contract with City Attorney Dave Gorton for criminal cases only, with an added requirement to submit monthly billing. Gorton wants to retire at the end of the year. The contract already includes a termination clause with 60-day notice. Only Councilman Rod Karst voted nay.

No proposals were received to provide animal pound service for the city.

Two lots on U.S. 2 beside the former Church of the Nazarene will be offered for bids until July 1. The minimum bid is $25,000.

Diane Cochran was hired as the drug prosecutor coordinator, a position that will serve 17 counties in eastern Montana. The position is funded by a grant for 18 months.

The topic of people camping out in private yards came up. Gorton said there is nothing wrong with it.

City Clerk Stacey Amundson said the city is going to be able to take payments by credit and debit cards using PayGOV. There is a $3 charge for a payment up to $100. If a payment is more than $100, the fee is 3 percent. There is no charge to the city.

Crack sealing has been pushed back by the weather, but repairs will be done soon downtown, on Cemetery Road and on Scottie Pride Drive.

The Skylark Road hay lease will be advertised for bids.
