Albert F. Gundermann, 88, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, of natural causes at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow.
A vigil service will be held Thursday, June 13, at 7 p.m., and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 14, at 2 p.m., all at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Glentana. Interment will be in Glentana Cemetery.
He was born July 19, 1924, in Avondale, Mont., the son of Michael and Magdelina (Heckner) Gundermann. He was raised and attended grade school in Avondale and attended Opheim High School. After school he and his mother worked in an ammunition factory in Arizona for a couple of years. He returned home, purchased his farm, and began a career in farming and raising hay and cattle.
On June 14, 1969, he married Virginia Thievin in Peerless. He liked to work and he and Virginia owned and operated the Richland Bar and Café in Richland for 15 years in addition to their farming. They operated their farm until just a year ago.
He was very active in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Glentana.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Hubert Gundermann and Michael Gundermann; and a sister, Molly Bergtoll.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Gundermann, of Glentana; three stepsons, Dennis Gilchrist of Belgrade, Minn., Mark Gilchrist of Glentana, and Tim Gilchrist and his wife, Julie, of East Helena; five stepdaughters, Winnie Baldry and her husband, Vern, of Wolf Point, Marilyn Myhre of Billings, Cheryl Novak of Dilworth, Minn., Billie Spriggle of Virginia, and Mary Dohlan of Helena; 20 step-grandchildren; and 33 step-great-grandchildren.
Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.
