Hot Dog! Look Who's Turning 20

Glasgow’s Head Start is having a big birthday party this weekend and you’re invited.

A 20th anniversary celebration will be held by the Head Start Parents Committee of 2012-13 with a spring fundraiser, “Hot Dog Picnic in the Park, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18. Hoyt Park, next to the swimming pool, is the place.

Over the past 20 years, the program has served almost 400 children and their families in the Glasgow, Valley County, area. This year, the Glasgow center has 19 enrolled children.

The staff consists of a teacher, assistant teacher, classroom aide/custodian, cook and site coordinator.

In a news release promoting the celebration this week, the Glasgow Head Start Center thanked the families, community persons, programs and organizations for continued support and involvement in making the AEM Head Start program a success for the past 20 years.

Parents will be barbecuing hot dogs to be served with chips and Coke products. Donations will be accepted for your hotdog, chips and pop and all proceeds will go to provide for needed supplies and equipment for the Glasgow Head Start Center.

Community support for the event has been furnished by Albertson’s, Reynold’s Market, Coca Cola & Dr. Pepper Bottling Company, Glasgow Girl Scouts and Good Evening Glasgow.

Head Start is a federally funded non-profit preschool program that provides quality services for 3- and 4-year-old children based on income guidelines. Head Start provides children with activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically. It also offers family support and assistance with health needs such as nutrition, dental, vision, physicals, mental health and more.
