The Scottie football team opened up their 2024 season with a decisive road win in Shepherd Aug. 30. Glasgow downed the Mustangs 51-8 after the Scotties put up four touchdowns in the first quarter. The Scotties kept the Mustangs off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter. The Scottie cross country teams kicked off their 2024 season at the Billings Invitational Aug. 30. The girls team scored 219 points to take ninth place and the boys put up 322 points for 12th place. In JV action, the boys took 10th with 221 points. The Scottie girls were led by Haleigh Huntsman who ran a 23:15.48 to take 33rd out of 101 runners. Kheyerah Bilger placed 53rd at 24:26.56. Cross Country runners from Frazer, Hinsdale and Nashua started their 2024 season Aug. 30 at the Wolf Point XC Invitational. None of the teams fielded enough competitors to qualify for a team score. Last Friday, Malta’s Jim Fauth set out to stock his freezer with salmon from Fort Peck Reservoir. He did, just not in the way he was expecting. By the end of his fishing expedition with his wife Nancy and friends Tony and Emily Simonsen, Jim landed a fish of a lifetime; a state record-setting Chinook salmon that officially weighed in at 32.62 pounds by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. The Thunder had a prime showing at their Divisional Meet in Glendive July 20 and 21 with three first places, seven second place showings and 11 third place finishes. The Reds attended the MT Legion East A District Tournament in Glendive last week where their season came to an end with losses to Miles City and the Billings Blue Jays. Glasgow fell 11-5 to the Miles City Mavericks July 25 in the opening round of the tourney. The Reds lost 6-1 to the Blue Jays the following day. Glasgow completed the season with a 14-23 record. The Inaugural Cade Myrick Memorial Match Play golf tournament wrapped up last weekend at Sunnyside Country Club. This unique event, featured 32 Men and eight Women competing in two separate divisions, spanning over a six-week period. Match play is a form of play where a player competes directly against an opponent in a head-to-head match. The Glasgow Reds defeated the Glendive Blue Devils but fell to the Laurel Dodgers and the Miles City Mavericks in their final week of the regular season. Glasgow holds a 14-21 record heading into the postseason this week at the District Tournament in Glendive. The Reds downed the Blue Devils, 10-9 and 3-2, at home July 17.
