Fish, Wildlife & Parks fisheries staff recently investigated a report of a fish kill on the Redwater River east of Vida. According to the concerned landowner, “many fish of all sizes and species” were observed at Redwater Crossing and continued upstream approximately one mile. The upland game bird season is less than one month away, and hunters will soon be able to refer to the Projects Access Guide, published annually by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks’ Upland Game Bird Enhancement Program (UGBEP). The Glasgow Wrestling Club put their 2023 Camp in the books last week with another smashing success. "I am very proud of how everyone swam. We had some amazing time drops," said GKST Head Coach Ethan Shrader of his Thunder's performance at the State Swim Meet in Conrad. GKST took the hardware as the Class C State Champions, despite not having a pool in Glasgow this season. The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team has come through this season despite a significant setback: the closure of the Glasgow Pool. The Thunder wore hard hats and safety vests during the Parade of Athletes at the Divisional Swim Meet in Chinook this past weekend while holding a sign that said "No Pool, No Problem" and they delivered. The Glasgow Reds baseball team ended their 2023 season in Miles City at the District Tournament after posting an 0-2 record over the long weekend. A popular Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Region 6 program that allows kids and their friends or families to check out free fishing rods and tackle is in full swing again this year. Smoke hung thick over Fort Peck Lake this past weekend, though whether it was wildfires or fishing rods burning up is hard to say. In 2023 we had a total of 68 kids with a total of 182 fish caught. Each participant received a free T-shirt provided by the sponsors. Prizes were awarded to the top placers and those who did not place had a variety of free gifts to choose from. Last year, the Fish and Wildlife Commission approved an amendment to the “hoot owl” rule that directs fishing restrictions during drought. The amendment allowed Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks to implement restrictions in designated reaches of Montana streams according to the Statewide Fisheries Management Plan.
