  • Spring Sports Future Looks Bright For Scotties

    J. Levi Burnfin, Courier Editor|Jun 5, 2013

Nevertheless, the Scotties still had a successful spring sports season and are set up to be even more successful in the seasons ahead. The smallest Glasgow High School class since 1930 graduated on May 26, including several highly-decorated athletes, such as Bryan Larson and Alex Page, who were named Scottie Athletes of the Year recently, joining a long line of distinguished Scottie com...

  • Reds Win Three

    J. Levi Burnfin, Courier Sports|Jun 5, 2013

Walt Dalbey was the only Reds pitcher to receive a loss in four games this weekend. The unquestioned ace of the staff was set to lead the Reds to a four-game sweep of Glendive in the final game on Sunday. He threw five innings and only gave up three earned runs. But Glendive scored five unearned, as well, giving the Blue Devils a commanding 8-0 lead through four innings. The Reds tried to scrape back into the game, scoring eight runs in the seventh, but it wasn’t quite enough as they fell 11-9....

  • Dailey Wins The Day

    J. Levi Burnfin, Courier Sports|May 29, 2013

Clearing her final high jump gave Megan Dailey not only the event state title, but also her Scottie girls a spot on the podium. The high jump, one of the last events of the day at the Class B State Meet in Bozeman on Friday and Saturday, looked to be anybody’s event to win with five to six girls coming in with season-best marks of 5 feet, 2 inches, the same personal record for Dailey. “I wasn’t really expecting [to win],” said Dailey. “I was really hoping to place but I didn’t think I’d win.” B... Full story

  • Errors, Key Injury Cost Scottie Softball

    J. Levi Burnfin, Courier Sports|May 29, 2013

Nothing went the way it was supposed to for the Scottie girls. In their third-straight trip to state, everything was set up to achieve Glasgow’s ultimate goal, a state title. Instead, a rash of errors, mistakes and one big injury cost the Scottie girls two straight losses and an early exit on Friday. “When you go to the state tournament, you have to bring your A-game every game. When you don’t, that’s what happens,” said Head Coach Mark Falcon. The Scottie girls played well in their first gam...

    J. Levi Burnfin, Courier Sports|May 29, 2013

Experience was the key for Tamrah Pewitt and Makkell Baillargeon in their rounds in Bigfork. Pewitt and Baillargeon, both sophomores, shot their first rounds of state golf at the Class B tournament on May 21-22 at the Eagle Bend Golf Course. “The biggest thing was, they’re young golfers and they got a quality experience,” said Head Coach Dave Riggin. “And they improved the second day, which is what we were looking for.” Pewitt started her tournament with a 127 on Tuesday, the first day of th...

    J. Levi Burnfin, Courier Sports|May 29, 2013

It’s not exactly set up as a tournament of champions, but the 14th annual Glasgow Catfish Classic sure looks like it will be just that. In the 13 previous tournaments, 10 different teams have taken home the title of best catfish duo. Seven of those teams are still together and are in the tournament field on Saturday. An eighth championship duo, Cole Plouff and Mitch McIntyre in 2006, are in the tournament but are now with other partners. “It’s quite simply the best field we’ve had,” said tour...

With the tournament pounded by rain, the divisional championship game was cancelled, giving the Scottie girls, the only undefeated team remaining in the tournament, the title, completed the third of their four goals for the season. “We got our first three objectives out of the way. The Reds, led by starting pitcher Keil Krumwiede, beat Glendive 10-3 in their first contest on Saturday and then came back to win 9-6 in the night cap. • One Game At A Time

    J. Levi Burnfin, Courier Sports|May 15, 2013

Heading into the postseason, last year’s run to second in the state for the Scottie girls’ softball team is in their back of their mind. And yet, it isn’t. “We take it one game at a time, one inning at a time, one pitch at a time,” said junior catcher Mariah Stein. It’s a sports cliche. Everybody has heard them at every level of competition. Usually, they’re just platitudes. In this case though, it’s the mindset of the entire team. In 2012, the Scottie girls, mostly comprised of sophomores, wen...
