  • Hinsdale/Saco Wildfire Light It Up In Malta Invite

    Virgil Vaupel, Courier Correspondent|Sep 4, 2013

After a less than stellar performance in pool play, losing to Chinook in a close match and getting fully annihilated by Plentywood, the Wildfire went two and two and won a berth in bracket play at the Malta Invitational Volleyball Tourney last Saturday, August 30 in Malta. With every game, the ladies from Hinsdale/Saco (H/S) seemed to gather strength from each other and get stronger as the grueling day progressed. Remember friends, their first match was at 9 a.m. and the championship game wasn’t decided until about 7:30 that night. After knocki...

The Glasgow Junior High cross country team participated in the Poplar meet on Saturday, August 31. The boys finished first with 42 points, followed by Poplar (55), and Wolf Point (63). The girls only had three runners, and could not do anything against the other teams. Poplar won with 32 points. “It wasn’t a real big meet, but I thought all the kids competed real well,” coach Tim Phillips said. “For the boys, Bryce LaGare had some calf issues, but still managed to finish in the top 10.” The biggest contribution came from Merlin and Ellis McK...

    Jeremy Dubois, Sports Editor|Sep 4, 2013

Hello everyone! As your new sports editor, I am really excited to be here and can’t wait to cover such a strong and vivid sports community. If my name doesn’t sound English to you, that’s because it’s French! I was born in the south of France and arrived in the U.S. in 2010 to study journalism. I obtained my Multimedia Journalism degree from Simpson College, Iowa, in 2012 and got my first job in Southern Texas. How did I end up in Glasgow, you might ask? Well, life is full of surprises, and one such surprise hit me when I was offered the opp...

The first annual Larry Leddige Memorial Dart Tournament was held Aug. 16-17 at The Cottonwood in Glasgow. This event is named for dart player Larry Leddige, who passed away in May 2013. Larry was a great guy who loved his family and friends and also enjoyed his darts. This tournament is a benefit tournament, and organizers use the proceeds to give a little help to people with medical costs. It may not be much, but they hope people realize there are others out there willing to help. This year the...

  • The New Name Is Hinsdale/Saco Wildfire

    Virgil Vaupel, Courier Correspondent|Aug 21, 2013

Mostly the same faces but a new name and colors have been added to the list of teams for the upcoming District 1C volleyball season. The team formerly known as the Saco/Hinsdale Panthers has now become, by virtue of a team vote, the Hinsdale/Saco Wildfire. In this writer’s opinion, this is a good move for all concerned. Much like the MonDak Thunder: two towns merging to form one team as did Westby/Grenora. Others include Froid/Medicine Lake Red Hawks, Scobey/Opheim (stayed same as the Spartans) and Richey/Lambert Fusion. I fear that the next 5...

  • Migrating Antelope Get Some Help

    Ron Selden, FWP Region 6|Aug 21, 2013

A dangerous chokepoint that migrating antelope encountered each year just west of Nashua now has one less hazard the animals will have to contend with. Old woven-wire and barbed wire fencing strung for about a mile along U.S. Highway 2 has long served as a potential barrier for pronghorn and other wildlife trying to cross the busy road and get over an adjacent set of Burlington Northern-Santa Fe train tracks. In fact, ground on both sides of the old fence – which was removed by a Montana F...

  • Reds Return To Top 3 At State

    Jim Orr, Courier Publisher|Aug 7, 2013

The Glasgow Reds’ mostly sizzling summer of 2013 ends like this: third place among eight teams in Montana-Alberta American Legion Class A Baseball Conference championship tournament. It was third place with an exclamation point, even if the Big Red Machine sputtered at the end in an 8-1 loss to Belgrade that put the Bandits in the title game against eventual champion Laurel. This summer goes down as one to remember for the Reds. They went 53-11, winning the Eastern A conference title. That m...
