  • Glasgow Wrestling Ready For More

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Jan 1, 2014

Glasgow wrestling enjoyed a nice winter break, but the break is just about over as the team heads back into the gym to prepare for its match against Malta on Jan. 2. Scotties head coach Trevor Newman says that the season so far has included a lot of learning and getting in proper shape. Newman is encouraged by his team’s progress so far and only sees more progress being made the rest of the year. “I thought the Great Falls tournament was a huge confidence booster for several of our wrestlers,” Newman said. “Cody King has really emerged as a le...

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Jan 1, 2014

Still searching for their first win of the season, the Glasgow girls basketball team is using the winter break to improve their play on the court as the second half of the season approaches. "We are focusing a lot on defense right now," said Scotties head coach Emilee Morehouse. "We are going to perfect our defense before we get into any of our offense." The Scotties will also throw in a couple of new schemes on the offensive and defensive side of the ball that Morehouse hopes to incorporate...

  • Glasgow Boys Back At Work

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Jan 1, 2014

Glasgow boys basketball head coach Norm Braaten allowed his team a little time to rest at the beginning of the winter break. Business picked up as usual after Christmas as his squad returned to the practice court on Thursday to prepare for the second half of the season that starts on the road against Glendive. When the Scotties do return to the court, it will be without Jake Kolstad, who will be shut down for at least a week with back problems. “He kind of aggravates it with anything we do,” Braaten said. The first game out of the break for Gla...

  • The Dream That Becomes A Reality

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Dec 25, 2013

I have always been fascinated with sports. It started at an early age. According to my mother, I was picking up bats and balls by the age of 3 and trying to play with kids who were years older than myself. At the age of 6, my dad took me to my first baseball game in San Francisco. From that moment on, I was sold into having sports being a part of my life in some shape or form. As I grew older and realized like many others, that playing anything professional was out of the question, I began to discover that writing about it was not. That... Full story

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Dec 25, 2013

The Scottie boys basketball team appears to be firing on all cylinders, but the torrid pace that they've been on may come to a screeching halt. Not by an opponent waiting on their schedule, but lack thereof. Glasgow enters winter break and won't have another game until Jan. 3. Closing out their remaining two games before hitting the break, Glasgow hosted Sidney Friday night. Sidney proved to be a formidable challenge for the Scotties. Glasgow went into halftime only leading by four. To make... Full story

  • Hinsdale Boys Win Two Over Weekend

    Virgil Vaupel, Courier Correspondent|Dec 25, 2013

On Friday, the Hinsdale Raiders traveled to Nashua to play the Porcupines. It was the first conference games for the Raiders boys and girls. The boys had to work hard for their "W". They found the Porcupines to be a scrappy bunch and every time the Raiders opened up a sizable lead behind pinpoint shooting by Dallas Capdeville, the Porkie's Lane Nickels popped for a couple three pointers to close the gap. But with Wyatt Pattison controlling the boards for the Raiders (11 points, 11 rebounds),...

  • U19 Wins Against Watford City

The U19 Ice Dawgs are on a roll. Glasgow secured its third consecutive win Sunday as they beat Watford City 1-0 at the Valley Event Center. The Ice Dawgs were once again led by the offensive tandem of Carley Wesley and MaKenzie Wesen. Wesen found Wesley in the third period for the game’s only goal in what proved to be a hard fought match throughout on both sides. Minutes after Glasgow found the back of the net, Watford City thought they tied the game at one, but a blown whistle by a referee signaling that the net had become detached from the c...

  • Ice Dawgs Draw Even In Billings

    Dec 25, 2013

On Saturday the Glasgow Ice Dawgs High School team traveled to Billings for a pair of games against the Bulls. Due to a scheduling issue on their end, the 10 a.m. game was moved to 9 a.m.. The problem was that they did not let the Ice Dawgs know until 8:30 that morning. Everyone made it in the nick of time after several frenzied calls and text messages. The game got underway at 9:30 a.m. and needless to say, the Dawgs took some time to find their rhythm after the hectic morning. In the first period, Billings came out red hot scoring 4 goals...

  • A Work In Progress

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Dec 25, 2013

The Glasgow girls basketball team ran into their toughest challenge on the season so far as they hosted Sidney on Friday. Sidney came out with a suffocating pressure defense that stymied Glasgow the entire first half in which the Scotties scored a total of eight points. "They were a very physical team that we weren't ready for," said Glasgow head coach Emilee Morehouse. "They pushed us where they wanted us to go instead of us going where we wanted to." Trailing 36-8 to start the second half,...

  • Mile High Experience

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Dec 18, 2013

Glasgow fourth grader Rance Rhoads comes across as shy when you first meet him. The shyness quickly fades away when you ask him about his recent trip to Denver as Rhoads finished third in the 8-9 year old age group in the annual Punt, Pass and Kick competition put on by the NFL. Rhoads took part in the competition this year thanks in large part of his parents suggesting he should. "My parents told me about [the competition]," Rhoads said. "Honestly, I thought I should try it." Try he did and... Full story

The Scotties jumped out at the tip, scoring the game's first 14 points. Baker head coach Jay Shumaker was forced to use an early timeout, but by that time the rout was on. "They had one game under their belt and I think probably a little hungry to get Baker tonight as well," said Shumaker. "I can't say...

  • Glasgow Girls Lose Opener

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Dec 11, 2013

The Glasgow girls basketball team fell to Roundup in the opening game of the season 58-49. This was the first time these two schools have met and even after a defeat, Scotties head coach Emilee Morehouse is already preparing for the next opponent. “It was a nonconference game so we just have to stay positive,” said Morehouse. Glasgow found itself up by one entering the fourth quarter, but in that quarter, Roundup outscored the Scotties 19-9 to secure the win. “They played hard the whole game” said Morehouse. “They pressed hard the whole tim...

  • U19 Team Shooting For The No. 1 Spot

    Quinn Robinson, The Courier|Dec 4, 2013

Finishing in second place is bad enough when you do it once. It's unheard of when you do it twice – in the same season – as the U19 Ice Dawgs did last year. The Ice Dawgs are back on the ice as the 2013-14 season is under way and head coach JR Rasmusan sees his squad returning to their old form. "By the end of the season we should be very competitive," said Rasmusan. "We're capable of playing with anyone." In order to play with anyone, the Dawgs will stick with an aggressive style of play that h...

The athletes and cheerleaders listed below earned a 3.5 or better GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for the first quarter and also earned a varsity letter in the MHSA sanctioned sport. They... Full story

  • Ice Dawgs Silence Havre Boo Birds

    Mike Eliason, For The Courier|Nov 27, 2013

On Saturday the Ice Dawg high school team traveled to Havre for a pair of games against the Ice Hawks. Unfortunately, Glasgow ended up on the wrong side of the score, being defeated 5-1 in the first game. The Dawgs' lone goal came on the power play from Ryan Padden with an assist being credited to Sam Schultz. On the bright side, even though Glasgow committed 11 penalties, it held the Hawks to... Full story

  • Hinsdale/Saco Play Like Titans

    Virgil Vaupel, Courier Correspondent|Nov 27, 2013

According to Head Coach Kraig Nordahl of the Hinsdale/Saco Lady Titans, this team handles the ball well, shoots well, takes instruction well, rebounds well, defends well and fights for every point and rebound. Sounds like a very formidable opponent indeed, and that's what they proved to be as they put away the Opheim Lady Vikings for the 2013 junior high girls basketball championship last Friday at Hinsdale. Stay tuned for more after these words... I must tell you a little about the boys. I was...
