Taekwondo Wins Medals On April 26th, three members from Glasgow Taekwondo attended the Karlo Fujiwara Memorial Taekwondo & Judo Tournament. The competitors, who were from Montana, North Dakota and Wyoming, competed in Poomse, Continuous Sparring, Board Breaking and Judo. Tommi Prewett, Sam Knierm and Isabell Hood competed in both the Poomse and sparring competitions. Tommi took home a gold in both her poomse and sparring divisions. Paddlefish season begins May 15 on the Yellowstone River below the mouth of the Bighorn River and Missouri River downstream of Fort Peck Dam. The Nashua Invitational track and field meet was held last week in Wolf Point and the Hinsdale Raider girls did well taking home a fifth place finish. Leading the way for the ladies was Bethany Lacock winning the high jump (4-10); the 100-meter (13.3); 100-meter hurdles (17); the triple jump (32-9) and the long jump (14-3). Glasgow track and field competed in Sidney over the weekend and as usual, the Scotties had strong showings across the board as they are trying to get as many athletes qualified as possible for the top 10 meet which takes place next Tuesday. The Glasgow golf team hosted the Glasgow Invite last Friday and the Scotties didn't disappoint. The boys team edged out Malta by three strokes to take first in the event with a team score of 372. Luke Gunderson and Braden Barstad, Glasgow's two top golfers, scored an 83 and 97 respectively. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will host a series of nine public meetings in May to review and discuss recent recommendations from an advisory council tasked with adjusting Montana’s hunting and fishing licenses and fees. The Glasgow softball team continues to mow through their opponents as they are now 5-0 on the season. The Glasgow Scotties track and field team held an impromptu meet at Glasgow on Monday after their previously scheduled meet at Cut Bank was canceled due to snow. The Scotties are picking up steam as they get deeper into the track and field season. The Glacier Nationals of the North American 3 Hockey League officially announced their intention to move to Havre, Montana on Monday. Club General Manager Butch Kowalka made the announcement of the three year contract signed April 2 with the Havre Youth Hockey Association. The contract, with options for renewal, should be the beginning of a long and positive relationship with the community of Havre and surrounding areas. This year’s Montana paddlefish seasons will again kick off on May 1 with the opening of the Missouri River section from Fort Benton downstream to Fort Peck Dam. But the public needs to be aware that camping and other access will be limited at the James Kipp Recreation Area at the Fred Robinson Bridge south of Malta due to recent ice-jam related flooding. The Valley Event Center was packed with vendors from wall to wall this past Saturday as the Glasgow/Fort Peck chapter of Walleyes Unlimited held it's annual bazaar. Newly elected President of the local chapter, Seth Morehouse said that an event of this magnitude takes months of preparation. It was a busy weekend for gun collectors and enthusiasts alike as the Glasgow Gun Show was held this past weekend at the Glasgow Civic Center. This is the third consecutive year that the show has been organized by Al Kwasinski. With a new season underway, the Glasgow Scottie softball team wasted little time to continue the type of play that they have been known for the past few seasons. The Scotties opened up the season against Miles City on April 10 with an impressive 7-1 victory. Shyla Bergtoll got the win for Glasgow going five innings and allowing only one hit while recording five strikeouts. The Porcupine Invitational was held this past weekend at Glasgow High School as 19 junior high teams competed in what was less than ideal weather conditions. The Bozeman Tier II Ice Dogs rode a wave of success to Wayne, N.J. After muscling their way through a handful of tournaments that started back in late December. The dream ride was derailed in the National Tournament however as the Bozeman finished in third place in the tournament. It was a clear, nearly windless day for the opening meet of the 2014 track and field season for the Hinsdale Raiders. Something that was missed for the better part of last season. Glasgow Taekwondo had three members compete at the 21st annual Lone Wolf Taekwondo Championships in Powell Wyoming held on March 29th. All three members; Tommi Prewett, Donny Brabeck and Sam Knierim competed in both the Sparring and Poomse divisions. The most-recent aerial surveys of elk populations in the Region 6 portions of the Missouri River Breaks and the Bears Paw Mountains south of Havre indicate a sizeable increase in animals in both areas over survey numbers that were last gathered. Montana’s verified wolf population remained stable last year while livestock depredations by wolves continued to decline, dropping about 27 percent from 2012. The Glasgow Highlanders traveled to the Billings Metra for the Montana Open this past weekend. 28 Highlanders were part of the 1,600 wrestlers that competed in the tournament.
