A Minnesota man has been ordered to pay $2,070 in fines and restitution for allowing his teenage son to illegally kill a 5x5 bull elk in the Larb Hills area of the Missouri River Breaks during the 2013 archery hunting season. Glasgow High School cheerleaders competed in Cheerfest 2014 this past Saturday in Lewiston. The competition included brackets for jazz/tap dancers, mascots, cheerleaders, stunt groups and individual jumps. The Glasgow Highlander Wrestling Club participated in the Black Hills Nationals this past weekend and once again, the Highlanders had another strong showing. Thirteen of the wrestlers that participated in the tournament placed for the Highlanders. Seven of those finished fourth or better in their respected divisions with Kohl Kittleson taking first place in the Bantam Heavyweight division. It was a weekend of layups and 3-pointers as the Jeff Jurgens Memorial Basketball Tournament took place in Glasgow last weekend. With over 70 teams participating in the tournament, four Glasgow teams pulled out championship victories in their respective age groups. The fourth grade girls started the party for Glasgow as they took home the first championship for Glasgow in the tournament. The Glasgow Scotties have come off an amazing season, which included a 49-40 win over the Jefferson Panthers in the opening round of the 2014 Class B State Tournament on Thursday. It was the team's first time in state competition since 1997, ending a 17 year drought. The Scotties have fought hard all year, added to the pride of Hi-line basketball teams. After sailing through their first contest with Winnett/Grass Range the Lady Raiders of Hinsdale (25-2) drew the Lady Rebels of Shields Valley (20-6) as their next opponent at state. The Glasgow Highlanders wresting club traveled to Denver to compete in the Rocky Mountain Nationals over the weekend. The Rocky Mountain Nationals hosted wrestling clubs from across the country. Glasgow’s club saw six wrestlers place in the event in what coach Jory Casterline thought was a good showing for his club overall. With basketball season over, a few Glasgow Scotties have been recognized for their stellar play during the 2013-14 season. Starting with the boys team, three Scotties were named to the First Team All-Conference list. Those players were Chase Fossum, Lane Herbert and Keil Krumwiede. Receiving Second Team honors for Glasgow was junior point guard Jason Thibault. The Glasgow girls basketball team headed into the Northern B Divisionals at Conrad on a high. After struggling on and off most of the regular season, the Scotties played remarkably well in the District 2B tournament in Malta at the end of February. After lying dormant for 13 years, the Hinsdale Belly Bump tournament has been revived in Hinsdale. Levi Capdeville and Nate Remmick decided this was too good of a tournament to lie buried in the archives so they got together and set it up for last Friday and Saturday at the Hinsdale High School gym to the delight of a couple hundred fans. The Glasgow Ice Dawgs high school team competed in the MAHA State Hockey Tournament over the weekend in Billings and went 0-2-1 in that stretch. The first game against Helena, the Ice Dawgs fell in a hole early and never receovered as Helena went on to win the game 8-1. The Valley Event Center hosted the 2014 MAHA PeeWee State Tournament, but unfortunately for fans of the Glasgow Ice Dawgs, there was no home cooking for the home team. Glasgow lost all three of their games in the tournament on their way to a sixth place finish. The Raiders of Hinsdale started off the 2014 divisional tournament against the Fairview Warriors and through the first quarter it was a tie ball game with Lukas Johnson getting a nice block in the first couple minutes of play. Mariah Stein and Abby Mehling have signed letters of intent to attend Dakota College at Bottineau and play softball for the Lady Jacks. Stein is a catcher-outfielder and Mehling is a pitcher-infielder. Both girls currently play for the Scotties. This past weekend was a huge success for the U-14 girls hockey team. Glasgow's road to the title started with an opening round game against Missoula.
