After a midweek trip to Glendive, the Scottie volleyball teams came home Tuesday night with mixed reviews. The C squad prevailed and won their match in three straight games, shocking the Red Devils with their tough serving and successful offense – and maintaining a spotless record. The Glasgow Scotties hosted the Baker Spartans on Sept. 12 for the homecoming game. Glasgow got off to a great start and stayed sharp throughout the game, defeating Baker 14-0 in front of a packed hometown crowd. Now with a 3-0 record, Glasgow finally broke a losing streak against the Spartans. Glasgow shook off its habit of a sloppy first quarter and capitalized on Baker's turnovers and penalties. It looks like the Scotties have a habit of experiencing a shaky start, then knowing how to get back on track. That was the pattern after Glasgow's second game of the season. It was a calm and beautiful sunny morning in Fort Peck. Yet, many adults and youth arrived with doubt. When it was over, they left as confident and inspired triathletes. The Glasgow Scotties XC runners are cutting their times with passion. Youth from across Montana will come to Glasgow to compete in high school rodeo events at the Valley County fairgrounds at 9 a.m. Sept. 20 and 21. This rodeo will have a YRA and a junior high rodeo that run with it, and this year the high school rodeo will have a reining completion. In addition, if you are a youth up to age 9, a “peewee” or a 10-year-old to eighth-grade “junior,” you could enter this rodeo as a hometown rodeo without purchasing a YRA membership. The younger version of the Saco-Hinsdale Wildfire made their appearance at the Malta Invitational last weekend and eventually lost out in bracket play to TriCity. They did take out Poplar along the way, winning the first of two games 25-19 and 25-22 in a three-game match. The other local team, Nashua, lost to Grass Range in the first round. The school boards from Saco, Hinsdale and Whitewater met last Wednesday at Saco to discuss the upcoming girls basketball season. Saco and Whitewater are in the final year of a three year co-op contract and Hinsdale is beginning a drought of players with only four of their seven high school girls wanting to participate in basketball. Hinsdale came hat-in-hand to request a change so that at least three of their girls could join with Saco's girls and play with the co-op. Rain, Rain, would not go away, causing the FMDH Foundation to postpone its annual golf tournament and major fundraising event. Cordell Younkin shows his hog around the ring while judge Levi Keyes oversees him. Younkin's hog was a little short in weight, at 179 pounds. The hog was shown in the feeder class, and the judges mentioned that it had plenty of potential for improvement.
