As part of the 15th annual worldwide Summer Sailstice, on the weekend of June 20, the weekend closest to the summer solstice, the Fort Peck Lake Sailing Club will join sailors around the world to celebrate sailing "together." The Glasgow Kiwanis Thunder achieved another strong finish at the Malta swim meet this past weekend. After placing third at the first meet of the season in Harlem two weeks ago, they moved up a notch and brought home a second-place trophy. The team doubled in size from last week as 24 swimmers attended the meet. Out of 76 event entries, Glasgow scored top three in 26 of them. They weathered eight games in five days on the road—two in Miles City where the Reds split with the Mavericks, then taking silver in the Buffalo Wild Wings Tournament in Billings. The Glasgow High School will host football camp from Monday, June 29 to Wednesday, July 1 at the Scottie field from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Glasgow Middle School (grades 7-8) and Youth Camp (grades 3-6) will be held on Wednesday, August 5 and Thursday, August 6 at the Scottie Field. When I saw pictures of the Valley Bank minors team with their trophies, I had flashbacks. It seems like just yesterday my own daughter was playing baseball for Valley Bank and her team was celebrating their first-place win. Hunters interested in participating in “game-damage” hunts on private land or possible management seasons this year can register online beginning Monday, June 15, with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. Hunters from this roster may be identified for three types of hunts: game damage, management season and dispersal. For the sixteenth year in a row, Northeast Montana was treated to a great show. The Milk River Catfish Classic took place over the weekend in Glasgow, Montana. Fishermen came from near and far to try and climb to the top of the Cat Classic mountain and take home the famed "traveling trophy." A popular Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Region 6 program that allows children and their families to check out free fishing rods and tackle is in full swing again this year. Just in time for summer fishing, FWP staff is in the process of restocking the 49 (and counting) different location sites across Montana's Hi-Line. The small community of Harlem, Mont. has an oasis right in the middle of town, the city pool. This past weekend, they hosted the first swim meet of the season and the Glasgow Kiwanis Thunder Swim Team was there to compete. Overall, the Thunder had a strong showing as 13 swimmers competed in a total of 43 events, which included three relays. The first meet is typically low-key and this one was no exception. Long-time Glasgow High School softball head coach Mark Falcon announced his retirement at the Scottie Booster Club All-Sports Banquet last Tuesday, May 26. Falcon became the Scottie softball head coach in 2004, with Arlene Archambeault as his assistant coach. In the opening round of conference games in Billings on May 30-31, the Glasgow Reds found themselves duplicating results with two different teams. Not only a local favorite fishing tournament, but Brenner Flaten, who has helped run and organize the event every year for 16 years, says it’s one of the top five fishing events in the nation. The tournament is so popular that Flaten said the tournament for this year was full 358 days before the tournament began.
