GHS senior Benji Phillips has signed a letter of intent to compete as a javelin thrower for the North Dakota State University (NDSU) Bison. Head coach Don Larson and associate head coach Justin St. Clair announced the recruitment Nov. 3 and GHS hosted a signing ceremony Nov. 9. Phillips won the Montana Class B state championship in the javelin as a junior in 2016, and he took second as a sophomore and fourth as a freshman in the event. Montana FWP game wardens are seeking information on a wasted bull elk, likely shot between Nov. 1-4, in southern Blaine Co. The 5X6 bull elk was located on the Biebinger Block Management Area, just off Sawtooth Road. Coming off an exciting 12-game winning streak that earned them the title of District Champions, the GHS volleyball team trekked on over to Shelby for the Northern B Divisional Tournament Nov. 3-5. Kyler Hallock has been wrestling since he was three years old when he started in the AAU program. Hallock is now 12 years old and bringing home hardware from some elite events. On Nov. 5, Hallock participated in the Mile High Monster Match in Denver Colo. Also making the trip were fellow competitor Oden Hallock and coach Dana Hallock. Montana FWP is taking public comment on two proposed rule changes: one on commercial use of fishing access sites and wildlife management areas and another that would increase camping fees at fishing access sites. The change to the commercial use rule, would affect the price of a filming permit for any FAS or WMA. Currently, permits are progressively more expensive as the size of the filming crew exceeds 21. HiLine Youth Hockey Association invites boys and girls to the Valley Event Center on Saturday, Nov. 12 for a Try Hockey For Free clinic as part of Come Play Hockey Month. The District Tournament held Oct. 28 and 29 did not start exactly as the Scotties had hoped. With a loss to Malta right off the bat, GHS was forced to re-group before playing Poplar later in the day, which they did with a win after three fairly efficient games. The 2016 Scotties played their final game on Scottie Field Oct. 29. After earning the title of conference champs with a win against Malta, the boys were ready for a rematch against the Colstrip Colts. The Scotties started their season with a 12-7 loss to Colstrip on Aug. 27. The North Country Mavericks team finished second in the District 3-C Volleyball Tournament on Oct. 28. The all-day event proved to be a test of the Maverick's stamina, as they ended up playing in every match of the tournament. The Scotties put on quite a show in Malta Oct. 21. Facing the rival Malta Mustangs on their home turf can be daunting, but the Scotties left it all on the field in an exhilarating win for the title of 2B conference champions. At times, it was an uphill battle, as Glasgow was assigned 17 penalties during the game, while Malta only received two. The Scottie cross country runners crossed the Hi-Line to compete at the state meet in Kalispell on Oct. 22. Led by senior runners Morgan Guttenberg, Brinlie Nielsen and Kasey Seyfert, they fell short of bringing home hardware, with the girls' team placing sixth overall and the boys' team finishing just one place away from a trophy in fourth. Glasgow vs. Malta After a three game sweep over Malta, the Glasgow volleyball team remains undefeated in conference play, setting themselves up for a nice start to the District 2-B tournament. What an outstanding match the GHS volleyball team delivered Oct. 13 when they hosted the Harlem Lady Wildcats. Pink night was celebrated by both teams and by most of the fans who packed into Scottie Gymnasium for the match. Both the C-Squad and JV teams won their matches, and then it was varsity's turn. The Scotties prevailed over the Poplar Indians in another lopsided victory on Oct. 14. Following senior night festivities with recognition of 25 football, cheer and cross country seniors, the Scotties hit the field and scored a long series of touchdowns. Dawson County High School senior Breilyn Riggin came back from a one-stroke deficit after day one of the State Class A Golf Tournament to finish as the top lady golfer in Hamilton. Riggin (163) was three shots better on Saturday than her 83 on Friday to beat Lewistown’s Kinsey Irvin (166) and last year’s runner-up, Butte Central’s Tricia Joyce (168). The Glasgow cross country team was in Plentywood Oct. 15 for the last regular season meet of 2016. The Scotties swept the meet with both the boys and girls taking the number one spot. For the boys, Glasgow had six runners place in the top ten, with Ellis McKean, Merlin McKean and Wilson Overby sweeping the top three spots. The Scottie volleyball team's trip to Scobey Oct. 4 was uneventful, as far as bus rides go. The volleyball match itself was a different matter entirely, as the Spartans and the Scotties faced off in a fierce battle of exciting offensive and defensive plays that brought the crowd to their feet. The Wolf Point Wolves hosted the Glasgow Scotties on the gridiron Sept. 30, and they were determined to prevail over the Scotties. Unfortunately, the most newsworthy notes of the evening for the home team were their senior recognition and homecoming festivities. After winning in her age group in the local Punt, Pass, Kick competion, Glasgow's Davyn Myrick advanced to the sectional competition held in Miles City Oct. 2. Competing against athletes from Southern and Eastern Mont., as well as Northern Wyo., Myrick took the top spot in her age group with a distance of 214'5".
