Scottie girl golfers gained some wonderful experience last week at the state golf meet – including the part when they had 50-plus people watching them on the first tee box. It's the season of sunflower seeds, hot dogs, and sunscreen. The Glasgow Reds traveled to Havre on Sunday, May 10 to open their season with some Mother's Day baseball. After a small ceremony to celebrate the mothers in attendance, the double header showcased the younger players from both sides in the first game. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and community volunteers recently sampled Box Elder Creek Reservoir (Bolster Dam) on the outskirts of Plentywood as part of their continued commitment to the fisheries in the Plentywood area. The Scottie Booster Club All-Sports Banquet is returning. This year’s banquet will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26 at the St. Raphael’s Parish Center Gymnasium. It was a beautiful evening for a track meet. On Tuesday, Glasgow hosted the annual "Top Ten" track meet. The top ten meet was started in 1983 by Bob Farrell, Mark Yoakam and Norm Girard. Athletes qualify just by being in the top ten in their events based on the overall results in Eastern Montana. The first win came from defeating Glendive on the Red Devils' diamond, 9-6, on Tuesday, April 28. Baseball diamonds come alive in the spring time in Glasgow. The Cal Ripken League opened their season in late April; the softball girls traded winter caps for helmets as soon as the ground thawed. Scottie girl golfers achieved their goal at the divisional meet held in Wolf Point on Monday. “Our goal was not to be the fourth place team, so we achieved that,” Coach Dave Riggin said. The Scottie softball team suffered their first conference loss to what many consider the top team in the division, the Conrad Cowgirls. The Cowgirls shut down the Scotties, 2-0, on April 25 at the Columbus Invitational Tournament. Glasgow Scottie Amanda Wolff signed a NAIA National Letter of Intent last week to compete in both track and cross country for the Blue Hawks at Dickinson State University. This year's Montana paddlefish seasons will again kick off on May 1 with the opening of the Upper Missouri River section from Fort Benton downstream to Fort Peck Dam. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks in Glasgow is conducting a pilot project to open Block Management Areas (BMAs) for spring turkey hunting along the Milk River. Up to 9 BMAs could be open for the spring turkey season, beginning April 11, and running through May 17. Most of the properties are located along the Milk River between Hinsdale and Nashua.
