Kolstad hit two homers, with Krumwiede and...

  • Top Ten Highlights Select Athletes

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|May 11, 2016

Top Ten The Top Ten track meet was held in Glasgow May 3. Meant to highlight the top ten athletes in each event, the meet produced some inspiring performances. Although the athletes participating were serious about the competition, the evening was fairly relaxed, the competition was friendly, and sportsmanship was prevalent. The Scotties were well represented and finished strong. Both Leinie Hughes and Luke Breigenzer qualified for the state meet. With her qualifying throw of 34-08.50 in the...

  • Scottie Tracksters Compete in Great Falls

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|May 4, 2016

Glasgow's varsity track and field team got a preview of the divisional meet this weekend when they competed in Great Falls at the Fairfield-Belt Invitational. It was an opportunity to become familiar with the facility and to compete against a different set of athletes. Glasgow was missing some placers, which left some points up for grabs, and the list of state qualifiers for the Scotties didn't gain any additions. Overall, however, the team performed well with both the boys' and girls' teams...

    For The Courier|Apr 27, 2016

  • Scottie Track in Sidney: Boys Second, Girls Third

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Apr 27, 2016

With four meets in the books, the Scottie track and field team continues to perform well and qualify athletes for the state competition. The Scottie boys placed second overall – probably the best they could do when competing against hotshot Kelly Murnion from Garfield County and the pole-vaulting powerhouse Garrison Hughes from Sidney. Murnion swept the sprints for the boys, and Hughes put on a show for the crowd when his top vault cleared 14' 08" – more than 3' higher than any other vau...

  • Middle School Tracksters Compete

    Andrew Mckean, For The Courier|Apr 20, 2016

With springtime weather and availability of venues both frustrating schedules, pulling off a full middle school track meet is equal parts good timing and better luck. A number of area schools had both factors working in their favor last Saturday, at the Nashua Porcupine Invitational track meet held at Glasgow High School’s track. Glasgow’s thinclads turned out only 7th graders for the meet. The reason is that only 6th and 8th graders will compete at next week’s Culbertson Invitational, so allowing 7th graders to compete at Nashua’s meet gi...

  • Qualifier's Meet Draws Several Teams

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Apr 20, 2016

The parking lot of GHS was full of cruisers once again for the Qualifier Meet held Monday, April 18. “The idea [of a qualifying meet] is to limit athlete's events and give them a chance to qualify for state by achieving the standards in their events, “ said head coach Tim Phillips. With 22 schools making the trek to participate, the competition was tough. The Scottie girls were able to qualify the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:17.00, and Benji Phillips threw the javelin for a qualifying toss of 195' 01”. Phillips had already qualified for the e...

Zeiger will be primarily running middle-distance events in track and field, but will also be competing in cross country for the Coyotes. • Scottie Boys And Girls Sweep the First Track Meet of 2016

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Apr 6, 2016

It was an unusual day for a track meet on Saturday. Unusual because the weather was perfect. There was no rain, snow, or wind. Okay, there was some wind, but it kept the bugs away. Glasgow hosted the first track meet of the year at Scottie field and it turned out to be quite a successful day for several athletes. In 26 events, Glasgow had 41 athletes/teams place in the top six. • Reds Bring Heavy Contribution to Dickinson Baseball

    Parker Kulczyk, The Courier|Mar 23, 2016

Former Glasgow Reds and current Dickinson State Blue Hawks Wacy Ortmann, Jonathan Koessl, and Jason Thibault have already had a very busy March with their team. From March 5 to March 18 the Blue Hawks had 16 games, all but 5 of them including an appearance from the Valley County trio. Ortmann, a Lustre-area native and former ranging outfielder and slugger for the Reds, is a rostered outfielder for the Blue Hawks, and also pinch runs/hits. He sees sparse innings, but has a vital role providing a...

  • 2015-2016 Eastern C Girls Basketball All-State Selections

    Virgil Vaupel, Courier Correspondent|Mar 23, 2016

'Tis quite an honor to be selected for the All-State Girls Class C Eastern Division Basketball Team. It's doubly sweet to have two girls from the same team chosen for this honor. Two of the North Country Lady Mavericks were chosen this season. It came as no surprise for Whitewater's Tatum Moore to be picked. She earned it with her smothering defense and her pin-point shooting. Her forte, at 5'6”, has been to challenge the “bigs” in the paint by driving to the hoop and shooting the lay-up with either hand. Moore is a senior and plans to play...

  • Highlanders Throw Their Weight Around at State

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Mar 16, 2016

The Glasgow Wrestling Club took over half of their stacked roster to Great Falls this past weekend for the AAU State Wrestling Tournament. That translates into the fifth largest team at the event for the second year in a row. With 66 teams in attendance, it would seem quite a task for a class B team to make their mark. It would not be a problem for the Highlanders, however, as they placed ninth ... behind only seven class AA teams and Havre. Setting a new club record, 40 percent of the...
