The Nashua lady tracksters earned an impressive second-place trophy for their efforts at the District 3-C Track Meet held May 14. Impressive because they only had six girls competing for points. Perseverance paid off for the Glasgow golfers at their divisional meet in Shelby. With likely the worst weather possible descending on them, the girls earned their third-place trophy and punched their ticket to the state meet next week. Assistant coach Betty Truscott said the weather was "horrid," and the meet was called after just nine holes. Truscott explained that it was 34 degrees with snow and rain, with 22 mph winds. Cut Bank The Scottie girls faced Cut Bank in their first game on May 7 in Havre. Making short work of it, Glasgow defeated the Wolves in five innings. The Scotties led off the scoring in the top of the first with two runs, followed by one run from Cut Bank. Top Ten The Top Ten track meet was held in Glasgow May 3. Meant to highlight the top ten athletes in each event, the meet produced some inspiring performances. The Lady Scotties have yet another new head basketball coach. Travis Nielsen has been hired to replace Jon Kolstad, whose contract was not renewed after two years of coaching. Glasgow's varsity track and field team got a preview of the divisional meet this weekend when they competed in Great Falls at the Fairfield-Belt Invitational. It was an opportunity to become familiar with the facility and to compete against a different set of athletes. After four games over the weekend, the Scottie softball team improved their overall record to 11-3, and took the top spot in the conference with a record of 8-0. Head Scottie football coach Greg Liebelt’s staff will have a noticeably different look for the 2016 season than in recent years with the replacement of three staff members from the 2015 season. With springtime weather and availability of venues both frustrating schedules, pulling off a full middle school track meet is equal parts good timing and better luck. Glasgow graduate Rachael Zeiger has taken another step in her collegiate athletic career, signing on to compete at the University of South Dakota. Zeiger will be primarily running middle-distance events in track and field, but will also be competing in cross country for the Coyotes. It was an unusual day for a track meet on Saturday. Unusual because the weather was perfect. There was no rain, snow, or wind. Okay, there was some wind, but it kept the bugs away.
