  • Scottie Runners Test State Venue in Helena

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Oct 11, 2017

The Scotties competed in two meets last week. First, the squad was in Helena Oct. 5 to get a preview of the course they will be running at the state competion. The Capital City 7 of 7 Invitational utilizes a different format than most meets, with seven separate, consecutive races held on the course. Each participating team was represented by their top seven boys and top seven girls, and the races began with the runners ranked seventh on each team. The day came to an end with the top-ranked...

  • Scotties Eke Out Homecoming Win Over Poplar

    Lori Dailey, For the Courier|Oct 11, 2017

For homecoming on Oct. 7, GHS outlasted a tenacious Poplar team that played with full hearts and sheer energy. While it wasn't the Scotties' most stellar performance, it still counts as a win, so it was a success. But, GHS will need to re-group after the close contest, especially as the district tournament looms large. Several stunning defensive plays livened up the team and the ever-loyal crowd, but GHS was kept off-balance and struggled to really find their rhythm offensively. Still, a win is...

  • Scotties Host XC Meet In Fort Peck

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Oct 4, 2017

The Scottie cross country teams competed in two separate meets this last week. The team first traveled to Culbertson Sept. 26, then hosted their own meet in Fort Peck Sept. 30. In Culbertson, Ali Cunningham, who is a sophomore for the Scotties, led the girls with her second-place finish overall, and Ellis McKean finished first overall for the boys. For their home meet, the Scottie boys easily won the meet with 48 points. The girls, short a few runners, were unable to record any point as a team...

  • Scotties Fall to Wolf Point In Three Games

    Lori Dailey, For The Courier|Oct 4, 2017

The Lady Scotties were in Wolf Point Sept. 29 to take on a determined squad on the night of their school's homecoming. It turned out to be a tough night for them as the Lady Wolves took care of things in three straight games: 19-25, 17-25, 24-26. Passing woes, which almost inevitably lead to a less-effective offense, plagued GHS for much of the game and overpasses to a very tall and athletic team was an immediate problem. But, credit also goes to Wolf Point. They blocked and hit very...

  • Scottie XC Races at Frazer, Havre

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Sep 27, 2017

The Scottie cross country team competed in two separate meets this past week. On Sept. 19, the squad traveled to Clark's Hill, just south of the Old Indian Highway, for an early evening race. The course for the Frazer meet is scenic and challenging as it is set near the Missouri River and features some demanding hills. On Sept. 23, the team was in Havre for the Blue Pony Invitational. The race for this meet is held at the MSU-Northern campus and is comparably less strenuous than the Frazer...

  • Lady Scotties Battle Tough Teams, Suffer Injuries

    Lori Dailey, For the Courier|Sep 27, 2017

GHS played a ton of volleyball this past week, all of it against outstanding teams in all classes. On Sept. 19, they traveled to Sidney for a match with the Eagles, a team they have traditionally struggled to beat. Showing true grit, the Scotties emerged victorious, thanks in large part to a remarkable display of serving by senior Ashtyn Myrick in game three. The fury of that attack fueled more aggressive serving, particularly from Kennedy Schmidt and Rachelle Glaser. Those three girls...

  • Lady Scotties Continue Winning Streak

    Lori Dailey, For the Courier|Sep 20, 2017

Sept. 16 closed out another fine week of volleyball for GHS as they completed the first round of conference play with a 4-0 record. Wins over Poplar and Harlem sealed the deal as the Scotties emerged victorious with two efficient matches, putting them at the top of the the 2-B conference for now. Moccasin Square Garden, home of the Poplar Indians and an ever-lively crowd, is where the Scotties caught their opponents off-guard on Sept. 14. In game one, they defeated the Lady Indians 25-5, thanks...
