    Michelle Bigelbach, The Courier|Nov 14, 2018

As a new hunter to Northeast Montana this season, Cory Mottice readily admits there has been a slight learning curve to navigating and getting a feel for the land. It has been more of an exploratory season for him, traveling all over the northeastern part of the state and discovering different areas. This past weekend Mottice, along with his cousin Josh Lenart, who is visiting from Utah, were able to navigate and explore together, calling their weekend hunting excursion a success, even with...

  • Hinsdale Seven Contributed Heavily to 2018 Scottie Football Season

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Nov 7, 2018

Seven young men from Hinsdale made up nearly one-third of the Scottie football roster this past season. That being said, you could assume that as a group they were key players for the Scotties. You could also say, arguably, they were the core players of the team. As a group, the boys are fairly unassuming and come across as honest, respectful and attentive. They also seem to have a good grip on reality and display a notable level of humility. Of the seven, four are 16 year-old sophomores: The...

According to head coach Somer Hoerster, going into districts, the Scotties spent some time working on their serve receive and were focused on using an attack at every opportunity "We've also been working on a lot of play at the net," she added. With playoffs on the horizon, the Scotties were on the road for their final regular-season game on Oct. 19 as they faced the Malta Mustangs. With home-field advantage for the first playoff game on the line for the winner, there were plenty of reasons to fight for the win. The Scottie cross country team finished up their regular season of competition at the Harlem Invitational on Oct. 13. With a clean sweep of the meet for both the boys and girls, it was a nice way to end the season. Although both teams performed well, a change in the venue may have affected their overall performance. The course was originally set to be held in Harlem, but had to be moved to Ft. Belknap due to muddy conditions. Alaina Sallee, a senior on the team, was mildly disappointed in her...

  • 21 Seconds, 3 Yards, 6 Points

    George Kulczyk, The Courier|Oct 17, 2018

The Scottie gridiron boys waited until the last seconds of their game vs. Baker to make the play of the night. The Oct. 12 contest held in Glasgow was stagnate for the majority of the night, with neither side making any progress on the field. Offensively, the Scotties struggled to score. They came within scoring position a number of times but could not capitalize on the opportunity. "I think senior night nerves had a lot to do with it for us," said senior Tayson Hoerster. "Plus, Baker brought it...

The Glasgow cross country team pulled double duty this past week with the Capital City 7 of 7 meet in Helena on Oct. 4 and the Miles City Invitational on Oct. 6. Although most of the Scottie runners enjoy the 7 of 7 meet in Helena because it is an entirely different format than other meets, they also acknowledge that it is a difficult course. Essentially seven boys and seven girls race against each other and earn points for their team based on their finishing positions. Colton Pewitt, who compet...
