The Glasgow Scotties hosted the 0-3 Conrad Cowboys Sept. 21, playing to a sizable hometown crowd. Those that left early missed the best part: a Scottie win in the last seconds of the contest. The recipient is not just measured by his performance during the game, he is also chosen based upon his demeanor on the field. The GHS volleyball team was on the road twice last week with contests in Sidney, Sept. 18, and a two-day tournament in Dickinson, N.D., Sept. 21 and 22. After losing their first set in Sidney, the Lady Scotties fought their way back to win the next three and to take the overall win (19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20). The Scottie cross country squad traveled to Havre for their annual invitational on Sept. 22, which is held on the campus of MSU-Northern. The Scotties had a command performance at the Culbertson Invitational held Sept. 15. Both of the boys' and girls' teams battled through the chilly weather to claim the top spot on the podium at the end of the day. Although individually first place for the girls was captured by Allie Azure of Poplar, the Lady Scotties still dominated the race with five runners finishing in the top six. The Lady Scotties hosted the Harlem Lady Wildcats for a conference match-up at Scottie gymnasium Sept. 14. Harlem stepped on the court ready to play and put forth a scrappy effort in front of a strong group of supportive fans. Lustre handed North Country their second consecutive loss in volleyball action in Whitewater on Sept. 15. With three seniors, five juniors and one sophomore on their varsity roster, the Lady Lions bring plenty of experience to the game. While the Lady Mavericks consistently produce plenty of talent, their lineup this season is shorter on long-serving players. The Scotties were on the road Sept. 14 to face the the Fairfield Eagles, a perennial powerhouse in the Northern B. With a fairly short roster of players and the absence of a few solid players for the game, the Scotties were unable to stop the Eagles' offense and were defeated 43-0, although Glasgow was able to finish the night with 88 yards rushing. The Lady Scotties took on the Malta M-Ettes at home Sept. 6. There was a sizable fan base on hand for both teams and the atmosphere reeked of competitiveness. The Lady Mavericks opened their volleyball season with two tough weekends. First, with a busy tournament in Malta on Aug. 25. Although the girls finished with some nice scores, they were unable to win a set for the day. According to head coach Charlene Wasson, the squad struggled at being aggressive at the net. The Scottie cross country team was in Billings Aug. 31. With more than 300 varsity runners, it was likely the largest meet on the Scottie's schedule. With the number of competitors at the meet, the overall finishes by Ike Braaten and Wilson Overby were definitely impressive. With several athletes unable to compete for a number of reasons, the team didn't run to its full potential. The 8th Annual Missouri River Catfish Clash took place in Williston, N.D., Aug. 18, as 40 boats hit the water on a beautiful sunny day. The Clash never seems to disappoint in terms of the number of catfish caught or the overall size of the fish, and this year was no different. An impressive 19 teams weighed in over 20 pounds. The Glasgow Scottie Wrestling Club held their annual wrestling camp at the Glasgow Civic Center last week. The program drew a crowd of 120 wrestlers ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade, and spanning from Glasgow to Billings.
